The pendulum stroke must die!

You certainly have a point, short and sweet is more effective communication in some cases. I tend to write book length too though. Try writing procedures in a nuclear plant or giving written instructions to a crew when you won't be there! Both teach you to write in painful detail. The crew will all or almost all be sitting on their asses if they can find an excuse to stop. You leave half a day and find that you have lost several hundred manhours. Running hard money jobs or paying out of my pocket that is a big deal. Not only did they get the primary job spelled out in painful detail, they got five alternatives!

In the nuke, if a cover has to be removed and you say take out three philips head screws and there are two or four in the latest version of the cover the job is shut down until the procedure is revised, likewise if they now use a different head screw! Again, you learn to write in painful detail to try to cover all eventualities. A two minute job can turn into weeks, months, even years in some cases! I have seen it. The procedure says "remove metal cover" it is now plastic. Slam on the brakes. You describe the cover as gray plastic and it now uses a clear cover, you guessed it!

After decades of this type of writing short and sweet is rare from me. Those interested read, or at least skim. Those that aren't are welcome to pass on. I am long retired and don't have a penny hinging on readership!

Yeah but we LIKE you and are therefore more willing to read your entire post on occasion. Not THIS occasion, but sometimes...

TLDR :p

but honestly, my sentiments exactly on last sentence.

As long as he is comfortable knowing that most will disregard his post as dribble, and his message lost, let him knock himself out. I, on the other hand, feel that what I say is important enough to say correctly and succinctly, placing minimal burden upon those choosing to consider my communication. I believe it is simply a matter of courtesy.
The word is "drivel" not dribble

drivel
2 of 2

verb

driv·el ˈdri-vəl
driveled or drivelled; driveling or drivelling ˈdri-v(ə-)liŋ
intransitive verb
1
: to talk stupidly and carelessly
What is he driveling about now?

First of all....what a fun read this thread was. TY to whomever posted it in the Hendry/Trump thread. I can describe the wrist action.... but first, to settle this nearly 15y.o. question....HU got pissy first :p (the flame's gone out but thought I'd pour gasoline on it just in case).

(whacked a bunch out, Hu)

my 2 cents. prove me wrong. But in the spirit of this thread, if you come at me, I'm 100% getting pissy and talking down to u :p

We are saying the same thing, hard to disagree unless you don't realize all of these compensations you are talking about are compensations.

I had several bookcases full of technical manuals on many subjects. When it comes to me and PJ you are like the guy that pulls out one manual in the middle of the bookcase, cuts to the middle, and figures he knows all that went before in the bookcase after reading a few paragraphs. I wasted many thousands of words on PJ in conversations before the thread in question. The conversations with PJ always ended up in the same place so sometimes I did save time and wear and tear on a keyboard. Note that I am having polite conversations with a handful of people while not wasting time with PJ. I found that PJ doesn't understand physics or simple mechanical principles and wants to talk physics. He always reminds me of the people on another forum that insisted on ignoring gravity. You can ignore gravity but it won't ignore you! A year or two after I left a friend let me know there was a thread about me on that forum. Title was "Hu is Wrong". Funny thing, now the OP agreed with me while saying I was wrong! Over a hundred and fifty more posts in the thread so I just laughed and went away. They had decided gravity was real after all.

Funny thing, I don't dislike PJ. He is like one of the ten blind men that encountered an elephant though. I don't waste much time discussing things with him anymore and he realizes we don't talk the same language.

I had remembered the humor and decent information in this thread without remembering it had turned into a typical PJ and Hu thread of that time period. When I read a little of the thread I deleted the link one place. Must have left it somewhere else. I tend to leave replies partially written or hanging while I decide if I really want to post them. Many of these posts get round filed but I think hitting refresh anywhere on the forum may make all of these hanging replies post. Might get me banned or lynched one of these days!(grin)

Ye I was just having a lil fun with u guys. The thread was actually informative if u pick thru the SA v PJ, but why skip the entertainment? My biggest mistake was to lump all my responses to the 4or5 floating topics in the thread in one giant post and consequently change the topic to a thread on TLDRs.

I use an Efrenish pump stroke myself but think the pendulum is very useful....just taught incompletely by not addressing what drives it under ideal circumstances leading most to be biceps dominant and robotic with little feel.

Dribble, drivel, damn spell correcter. LoL ! Good catch. I seldom use either one, so I probably would have never gotten it. So, truly, thank you.

Writing well is about caring enough to give one's very best (+ relentless proofing) and then acquiring and applying the necessary skills to accurately communicate. There's a whole bunch of folks around here who know what I am talking about and can bring it when they need it. It has been my good fortune here on AZB to have read so much, from so many, on a subject I so dearly love. Hell, I have even learned to enjoy CoCo's missives once I became adept at figuring out what he was trying to say. (Much pool and life wisdom residing underneath that cowboy's hat, but, damn, how he does make me work to get at it.)

Which brings me to Hu (who has never, ever, been accused of not caring enough or being deficient in any ability he sought to acquire). Hu, I wasn't talking to, or about, you, so don't mix yourself into this -- just keep on keeping on!

And, oh, Garczar, you must learn to be more direct -- just get to the point. All of your wishy washy, beating around the bush, BS has got to end -- next time just tell us how you feel.
