The pool bug

How do you get the pool bug back? I want to start playing again but after I practice a few times I lose interest. In the 90's I couldn't get enough and wanted to play non-stop. I quit a few years ago and only played maybe five times since. I want to start back and want to crave pool but it seems to be difficult. If nothing else I want to be back at my old skill level to make money. Anyone have any suggestions to get the desire back.

I don't really know. All of my comebacks were because I missed the game and the people around it. What I did if I wasn't getting back in stroke fast enough was start playing some cheap sets with players that were a ball or two better than me at this time, but who I use to beat. I'm a cheap **** so it worked for me. Plus I hate losing. Johnnyt

Well, ignoring the thought that pool is a stupid thing to know how to do...

I usually take a break every 3 years and do something else (in my case, bike riding each time- there's a choice, choosing to suffer physically, not mentally!- and that usually does it. Whadda they say, if you love something, set it free and all that. If you don't come back to it, fuggit!

The only reason I started playing again 12 months ago was due to a comment over dinner with friends. My wife's friends boyfriend mentioned pool & we got talking about it & agreed to meet up & play one night. That turned into a weekly thing which turned into weekly tournaments & so on.

I really didn't realise how much I missed the game until I started playing regularly again. I'd gone 12 years without playing but now I get itchy after a couple of days without a game. I'll never quit again, I may have to cut back some (:( ) but I'm back for good. I just want to see how good I can be, although cutting back is not helping that at all.

Now, if I had a table at home. That would be perfect!

The desire is either there or it isn't. There is no future in forcing the issue.

I ust started shooting again about 3 weeks ago. I stopped shooting cuz, I moved and the city I live in, has no pool hall. And at the time, my lone friend in the new city, whom I knew before moving had a pool table, but didnt shoot during the summer. So I stopped playing, and went back to playing softball.

Well my buddy calls me up and is like hey lets shoot some pool and this n that. I then tell him well I just sold my cue! But I decided to play some anyways, using one of his cheapy cues. Needless to say, I started to get the BUG back, and went out and bought a Custom cue. And have been practicing a few times a week at a local pub, that has a few barboxes, where I can just pay by the hour.

I think for me, just having the time off, and then comming back to play made the big difference, where as I was only playing pool and sometimes getting burned out.

I felt flat when i returned to the game about two months ago and still am really, as I cant afford to practice anywhere near the time Id like too. When i do feel flat and cant practice il watch video clips of some great matches or exhibitions that inspires me for the next time i play!
