Thanks for volunteering to everyone who can see this.

I am getting ready to launch an online classified ad system as part of AzB and I am asking your help on the configuration of that system since you guys know more about selling stuff online than I do.

I want to get the system set up and configured before launching it (and I will set all of you guys up with the ability to post free ads before we launch)

Here are my questions right off the bat...

What categories do you think would be needed for something like this? I am currently thinking of these...

Cues
Production
Custom
Cases
Accessories
Tables
Pool Schools
Misc. Items

We can set up custom fields for different categories. What fields would be important to have for various categories? (I.E. Cues should have "Weight, New/Used, # of shafts, etc)

The system allows for seller stores and for buyers to post feedback on the sellers after a transaction. Is this ability important to you as a seller? I would think so.

Any other comments you may have on this would be great. Just post them here in the forum.

I have found in cues the weight, length, number of shafts, type of ferrules, are very useful. I like to describe the forearm and butt in their own little blurbage on our site. You may choose just to have a main description section. Recently balance point has become an issue, but I still only get about 2 requests monthly for balance point. Tips maybe important, type of wrap. It may also be nice to have a "Vintage" section under cues, for cues pre-1980 or so.

Cases may also require a "collectable" or vintage area.

You may want to have an antiquities, or memorabilia section.

A pool table mechanics directory may also be helpful.

I will do my best to add any input I can. It looks like you are well on your way. I have everything that I sell under the brand name or custom MFG. Click on Schon and a drop down catogory comes up with the different catogories( Unique, Elite, SP, STL Custom ETC.). I have found the more user friendly it is the more people will use it. Best advice keep it as simple as possible. If you are going to charge Keep it cheap for the user. I sell a lot on Ebay and I am now moving away from Ebay because I think the fees are getting ridiculasly high. I will check back later. Thanks for letting me be apart of this.

Joe, thanks for the input on categories and custom fields. I am working on adding these categories and fields now.

Agree very much so with this. Also what Troy had mentioned about a drop down box for different models of that brand would be nice as well. I think that this will be a great addition to the site and will help the site out alot as it will keep custom cues and production cues seperate from each other and people can go and look at what ever type of cue they are looking to purchase.

Thanks, Mark

We already have Cues broken down into Production, Custom and Vintage.

We can either setup New and Pre-Owned as cats below cues and then break each of those down into Production/Custom/Vintage or we can add a custom field for new/pre owned. Which would make the most sense?

You need a preowned cue catorgory and a brand new cue catorgory. This goes for cases too.

if its possible to just have a seller fill in a table with the specs that you can display in a small chart containing weight, length, number of shafts, wrap, tip, condition next to a picture or two that would be wonderful for a preview. i would rather give a seller a chart to fill in than let them describe it themselves and leave something out... it would get rid of the constant requests for weight, length, etc. i dont think we need a specific search option for type of tip, wrap, or anything like that.

i think it would be nice to have production/custom/vintage and then new/preowned as sub categories under production/custom. i doubt theirs a need for it under vintage.

do you think it would be helpful to require an asking price, or at least a ball park figure. i know a lot of people who arent sure if a cue is worth 1000 or 2 when somebody just states 'accepting offers'(much more common with the custom cues) it would be handy to have at least a 'this cue is estimated at' or 'retails at' price.

here is what i was thinking as far as a quick bio on the cues.let me know if its worthwhile or not.

i realize i missed adding 'tip' on there, but you get the idea anyway

I like the additional field idea to seperate new and used cues versus a seperate category. I was also wondering about a section for cuemaker parts and tools as we see turning squares, lathes, joint pins offered for sale and it would make sense to accomodate with a category.

i know sometimes its always nice to see a price posted.. but i think posting the price should be up to the seller since there are alot of times where people try to undersell you when you post something and somebody else posts that they are interested..

also.. is this system going to be in the thread format like the current forum or is it going to be something completly different.. the way the forum works now is nice..sometimes it answers alot of questions people have for stuff that is for sale or if they are looking to sell something but arent really sure..

chris

I agree with you Chris on the price posting and add that on some new items manufacturers will not allow a dealer to advertise a price below a certain discount point. I handle that by listing the MSRP and then have people ask if interested.

I think posting the price should be mandatory. It's been my experience when you have something to sell, you know what you paid for it, so put a price on it. Sellers will be able to scan the forum before they put a price on an item to get an idea of what that item should be listed at. Put a price up and say "make a reasonable offer", at least this way there is a start to a potential negotiation.

I also think that there should be a way to limit the responses to the ad so they don't turn into wars of cue design, or this cuemaker is this and that.. not that I know anything about those types of arguements. :)

I agree, new / used should just be a field. Good idea for the pool cue making supplies.

I think I will add a field for the cues for retail price as well as the fields on that grid. I think that should work great for this.

This is going to be a completely separate area of the site. It is not ready for public consumption yet, but you can see the work in progress at ...

try not to have too many seperate pages to look at stuff.

splitting certain catagories i understand.

but having 12 different places to look at one kind of object is tough on the buyer AND seller.

posting a price and obo (or best offer) is a great idea.

feedbacks on selling cues is great.

is it possible to have a positive feedback # next to someones name when selling like ebay? or making another catagory when you click on someones name, like when you PM them, to have an option of seeing good feedback transactions. just a thought.

shaft size, tips, ferrules, weight, overall condition, wrap, all must haves when posting a cue.

return policies?

shipping pricing and options?

i just woke up.......ill think of some more.

good job so far guys.

Gotta say that is very nice the way you have that set up, I really think this will go over very well.

Thanks, Mark
