This is a recent release that I've merely stumbled upon.

It shows Hideo Moori and his "Factory".

It also shows where to order directly from them for those paranoid amongst us who are concerned with knockoff products.

I have to say I'm less than impressed with his "Quality Control" associate upon whose opinion apparently new products are assessed.

Aaaaaaanyway, I thought it was interesting albeit really lacking any relevant product information. Just thought I'd satisfy your curiosities...

Here it is: https://www.youtube.com/embed/zoOcYtlMWWM

Perhaps you can clear something up for me and some others. The original moori tips were great. Then changes were made and it seemed to many that the new tips did not play as well as the original tips.
I heard that the company was sold. More changes were made. I think layers were added. The tips seemed to play worse with each change. Is it true that the original company were sold. Why did the hit seem to change so much.
If the original company was sold, had Mr. Morri started a new company?

Not a freakin' clue. It seems that most every cue tip review has to include something about it being close to the "Original" Moori. I'm sure they were great, but perhaps they've become greater as time has gone on.

It's hard to think that with the plethora of cue tip types and manufacturers, that for some, hardly anything holds a candle to this illusive, magical and perhaps mythological Original Moori.

I say this even though I am seriously thinking of having a Moori J/Jewel installed on my new OB shaft.

I really wish somebody could give true specifics about why these original tips have yet to be replicated. Just doesn't seem to make sense...

Actually the number of layers have been reduced with each generation. The current Gen4 tips (the regular Mooris, not the new Jewels) are 8 layers, down from 9 in the Gen3 tips, and I believe 10 or 11 in generations prior to that. Supposedly this was due to better leather and improved assembly.

Mr. Moori still exclusively makes tips under the Moori brand, so he hasn't sold the company. There have also been some counterfeit tips sold through some less scrupulous dealers, particularly from China, that are of poor quality.

Hideo O'Hara is very knowledgeable about pool and cues. He is respected and has been around the industry for a long time.

Well, that's comforting for sure. Thanks!

It would be wonderful if someone could report to Mr. Moori how his older tips are revered, with the obvious hope that they might be replicated once again.

That magical, WonderPig certainly must have some close relatives in Japan.

origional Moori tips

I can't quite tell what it is about the origionals that made them play so good, but I'm glad I saved a dozen. I have heard the hit described as "springy", but to me it is hard to put into words.

Better skin imo.

Good video. Now we knoe there's only one source of Mooris for US and Taiwan dealers.
