This one was done for a customer who wanted a case that has a lot of work but is not flashy. He wanted a case that people wouldn't notice as soon as he walked into the room.

I think we managed it with this one. The customer wanted to combine floral tooling with reptile prints so we did that. The sides are filled with florals done in black and textured on the scallops to transition into the reptile print on the front and back.

For the top pocket we did a custom built magnetic Puzzle(tm) latch that doesn't open by itself and has a solid and satisfying closing force. It's hard to explain in words but when you use this latch you will understand that it's the best solution for this type of pocket for what the customer wanted. It's not a commercial magnetic latch found on purses - we designed it from scratch.

For the closure on the case itself we did a custom in-house design Puzzle(tm) Latch. This is another type of latch I invented where the flap is locked into the body by the leather nesting into the guides on the body. This allows the body to absorb the stress that would normally be on the latch when the case is carried by the top handle.

The customer also requested a shoulder pad that is twice as long as our normal one. No problem and no extra charge :-)

We used black gunmetal rivets to complete the look. This is a very hard case for me to take pictures of. It probably would have helped if I didn't use a black background on this one.

The case is a 2x5/3x4 configuration.

Well that's one of the cases we have been up to lately. More to come later when I get caught up on picture taking and editing.

Very, very classy! I like that a lot. Would love some extreme close ups of the closure mech's you designed, but I get the feeling they have to be experienced to get the point.

Beautiful!!!

You put the custom in custom cases. You guys can do anything !!! WOW.

Looks great John. The cool thing about the black on a tooled case is from a distance it looks like any ol black case but up close all the work really pops. This one is very cool with the print mixed with the tooling.

Damn John! What an awesome case! It looks like that zipper on the smaller pocket has the new L shape that we were talking about the other day! Super cool John!

Here you go;

Starting with the top latch. This is basically a line snap set in the center of a pair of brackets. When the lid flap is mated with the body then the tongue sits between two brackets just like a puzzle piece. This takes all the stress away from the line snap. The brackets are reinforced as is the tongue so that it should hold it's shape indefinitely. Also our lids fit snugly on the body so that also reduces the stress on the closures when carrying the case by the top handle.

This first picture shows it in the unsnapped position so that it's just laying inside the brackets. When snapped it is flush to the brackets.

And this is the pocket latch. I need to take a better picture of how it works. Essentially it's set up so that it also fits like a puzzle piece with the magnet portion going into the rectangle and then there is another shelf above that so that the flap stays put until the user deliberately lifts it away from the pocket.

It's hard to tell how this really works from the pictures. One thing I wanted was for the flap to lay flat against the pocket and we achieved that so it has a streamlined look. I have lots of commercial magnet latches but none of them are really suitable to this application the way I wanted it to look and work.

John,

This is a great case, one to be especially proud to take to work with your cue! The detail is great, and the subtlety is superb.

Striking. Thanks for sharing!
