The value of a cue builders cue after retiring

I need to know what happens to the value of a cue builder cues when that person stops building cues? I would guess that the value would go up because of the possibility of rareness. Now if that cue builder starts to build cues again, does the value of the first cues increase or decrease? and what about the next batch? will that hold more value than the first batch or less? The reason I ask is because, I'm looking at a retired cue builders first batch of cues he made, and was wondering if I should just wait on the second run of cues. Or buy the first Run for a little less. Thanks for any help

A USED Q is generally worth 1/2 of what it was, when new. Because a Qmaker dies or retires does not mean his work is worth more. Cues are more valuable if the Q was made by someone famous, owned by someone famous or is loaded with valueable stones or metals...JER

The value

Your buying from the wrong cue maker if the value is 50% of what you paid. A lot to be said for buying from some one with a track record.
Investing in cues is like anything else. For every Shelby Cobra someone rat holed away there are thousands of dogs rotting in the junk yard. Buy it cause you like it.

SW, BB, Hercek, Tad, Gina, Showman, Tascarella, Searing, Szambotti, at half the price when new? I will buy any of those and give you 75% of the new price, just keep them comming.

I think ALL of those you named, are considered FAMOUS, as I said & would be collectable. I consider the Qs that I have made, for the past 20 years, good solid playing Qs. When I die those Qs, will not be collectable or go up in resale value. A used Meucci, Mcdermott, Viking is worth about 1/2 of it's new value. If one of their makers died, I doubt that they will appreciate in value...JER

There are a few small names whose cues somehow fetch good prices.
Hank Corsair, Bill Hagan or Frank Costas.
I think it depends how many cues the maker made and his reputation.
Bill Hagan did not make that many cues and his cues are desired by many.

This is the original post & I was triing to help the poster understand that "RARENESS" (as he states), does not mean that this Qmakers work will automaticly, equal higher value...JER
