What a great day today was, I gave my wife her first billiards lesson, I'm so happy she has shown interest in some thing I love, She told me she wants to learn how to play. Day one nothing fancy just the basics, Stance, How to hold the cue, Proper stroke and following through when hitting the cue ball. how to address the shot. I must say there was big improvement from the start to the end. She made some really good shots for a person who has never hit a pool ball in her life. This got me thinking, As we all know many of the top players in the world are filipino and so is she, This could be my retirement plan in the works LOL, Very good job today Hun I'm so proud of you you did really good, Lesson Number two maybe next week.

Good deal :)
If she gets hooked she'll perfectly understand how you can walk around a pool table for 8 hours at a time.

<<<<<<<Can't get my fiancee' to understand how I can walk around a table for hours on end.

I think many females have a great eye for the game. It is actually amazing to me how well they do with some of the worst stances & bridges. It is almost like they are playing on on a suspended table & the floor is moving,

Good luck with the endeavor,

Lol

There is no doubt in my mind if she sticks with it she can be a great player, She is a perfectionist at heart, I was being easy on her today putting balls in front of each pocket and letting her hit them in, After a while of doing that she said hun dont put them so close to the pocket, I want to chalange myself, Thats when I said to my self Dam I could be onto something here.LOL Look at her form in the last picture, Legs apart weight evenly distributed on both feet, Head over the shaft and sighting down the shaft, Look at how lever she keeps the cue and the form of her back hand, Perfect. All this from a person who has never in her life hit a ball till today, remember she is filipino, Thid could be my retirement plan in the making LOL

I know it was the first day & I bet you know what to do, but I'll put my $0.02 in anyway. Most females Ive seen that play stand with their front foot TOO close to the line & have terrible bridges.

The 1st. thing my Dad did was pound on the rail & said, 'no matter what you wind up doing for a bridge, you will never have one as solid as this'. I suggest you show her as many good bridges as possible. And then make her use them. Tell her to use them or for the next 3 weeks there will be no se....., no, don't say that. Find another way.

Best Wishes to You Both,

Thanks english, She did have a little problem getting use to making a bridge, I think two reasons are she has very small hands and she is just not use to making that shape with her hands. She pickup things up very fast but I agree with what you said about the bridge because that took a while before she was comfortable with hers.

Yeah, isn't that knid of funny. They can't put their hand flat on a table & then pull up into a cupped open bridge but they can undo a multi clasp bra strap behind their back with their off hand while brushing their hair or their teeth. Go figure.

Just remember to have fun.....

Teaching is fun but w/ mine it wasn't until she started winning that she wanted to learn even more. I also have her look at other people playing to gain the good habits as well as spotting the bad...this seems to give her confidence when playing others. Oh yea playing pool w/just you lasts a short while....one of the two of you will crack to some degree.

Just have fun w/ it

Jim

Congrads hope u guys have fun my mom, my dad, lil sis, and gf all play were all on a team together in apa its great time!

I'm glad that my wife is involved in the pool league with me. Its good to have a hobby that you both enjoy. Encourage her to come out more often. They get a sense of pride when they can see a visible improvement in their game. Fun to watch.

Gunzby. Lesson number two - Walk around the table for 8 hours in those heels and she will be wearing something a bit more comfy next time.

Nice boots tho.

For any of you that can get your better (or in some cases, best) halves to want to learn or join you, you're very fortunate.

I can't get mine interested at all.

Mine wanted a pink cue, so I found her one with the hopes that it might encourage her to join me in league or just practice and play when I was doing same.

Boy, did I miss the whole ship on that one. In the 3 years she has had it, it's seen table time twice for 2-3 games each time. It collects dust and takes up a spot in the closet.

Hats off to those of you who can get your spouses involved.

Trust me I'm very happy about her interest, I tried years ago to get my young son involved in pool and at that time I worked at a pool room. I always wanted to take a person who knew nothing about pool and teach them all I know and see how far they go. My son wanted nothing at all to do with pool, The X wife killed it for me and also my relationship with my son. Now I'm remarried to this filipina. She is very up to date with watching all her country man like Alex, Dennis, fransico, Ronnie, Yesterday when she came with me to play, The first thing I said to myself is All I want from this first time of her playing is just for her to have fun and enjoy her self, The worst thing I could have done was be one of those guys saying no no your doing it wrong or just have some negative way of showing her how to play, All I wanted was for her to have fun and enjoy her self I spent a few min showing her the basics to get her started then I walked away sat down and let her have fun. I thought this will only last a few min but she played by her self for over an hour, Just setting up shots and getting comfortable hitting the ball. Later that night she was interested in watching videos on youtube,

Mine, too

My wife started playing on our table about a month ago. She has been playing 1-2 hours each day. Mostly she practices alone. I either play her one-handed or with a bridge, which gets me a lot of bridge practice. My only problem is that I wanted to have my pocket openings reduced from 5" to 4.5". I don't want to discourage her interest. So I may wait a while. She didn't go for the second table idea.

A couple of years ago, I got her interested in golf. Now, I am expected to take her for at least two rounds each week. How many husbands complain about that?

Have fun.

Teaching your own spouse, wow, yous' a brave dude. There are people that I play with and when their spouse is at the table they ask me to coach or ask me to show show them something and the same for me, I think trying to teach my wife would be a disaster. Unless she asks for my aide I have learned to keep my mouth shut (unless I want to sleep on the couch). She thinks I lack patience, but I disagree

Good! I hope she stays interested. My wife lost interest as soon as she hit her first plateau. It became to much work and she quit. Which sucks in a way for me, I would love for her to enter tournaments with me. But she is the type that if she doesn't feel like she is good at something than she wont do it at all.

look out

Teaching your wife for awhile is okay, but if she gets serious do yourself a favor get her lessons from a person you trust and dont criticize them. My wife in a 1 1/2 year period went from couldnt hold a cue to runner up at bca nat. We have fun if i keep my mouth shutand dont say why you shoot that .If momma's happy dads happy.

Okay, so the million dollar question is ...does she have the Filipino elbow drop stroke???

Learned behavior or is there actually a genetic component, JT's answer could shed some light on this

Yeah. Never thought of that.

Maybe we should be lining up for Blood Transfussions.
