the wire

Ipad version of Billiards Buddy now is landscape format. Great feature. I like it better then beads or wheels...but that just me.

LOL... It all sounds like "Who's on First".... I have a set way, I guess it's "Old School". I like the rack score on the left side & total on the right. I look at it as if I am reading. We read from left to right.

Here in our house, we have the toilet paper rolls positioned such that the loose end dispenses from the bottom. We actually prefer that the loose end dispenses from the top of the roll, but our cat ruined that preference in a jiffy, because he likes to "paddle" the rolls with his front paws and ends up unrolling the whole roll onto the floor. So we had to switch.

I think that's what AtLarge was trying to say -- you have to be flexible sometimes. ;) :p

-Sean <-- keeps score by counting how many sheets he uses at a time, otherwise the toilet clogs with too many

Viva Las Vegas!

Having them in Chicago doesnt help ME out any, lol. Here in Vegas the wheels on most of the GC,s stink, theyre either faded to oblivion or you need a tire iron to move them.

On another note i finally got to play on the 5 x 10 at Best Billiards tonight, what a pleasure that was. Actually got off a run of 16 and amazed myself.

Sorry. If you get here, I will pop for a game under the wire.

In another matter, one of our league members has relocated to Vegas. Do you have a very active 14.1 community out there. I am hooking him up with Max Eberle. Do you have any leagues out there?

Maybe you guys should start one.

Yes, toilet paper should roll from the top, that is correct. Unless one has a cat, very understandable but one does not need to be flexible when it comes to certain things in Life. Specially when the "Old School" way is the right way and it applies to the wheel in this case.

Is 14.1 played much in Russia?
nah :(

some times a player can moves those wheels with their bridge hand by accident
on the contrary, here one will have hard time finding such easy wheels. Due to lack of use I suppose they get stuck so that it's sometimes hard to find a couple that rotate to keep score in 9-ball, let alone all 4 for straight pool

Vahmurka...my good friend from Russia. Yes, I seen many of wheels over the years that do not work properly. My table was made in 1968 and the wheels work fine. I think in pool rooms the tables are abused all together. I did say that I like the beads (wire) better. Another good thing about the wire. You can & other people can see the score from a distance. That is important.

Yeah, I don't think what I wrote was completely clear. So I just revised post #17 to try to make it more clear for any new readers. But I certainly understand your preference. And when I am using the counters by myself, that's the way I do it, too. But when someone else has a different preference, I just try to be flexible and go with what they want.

P.S. Sounds like an easy shark for someone playing you to insist on using the wheels differently from your preference.

LOL..... I understand. I have played with players who wanted to do it a different way. I did it their way b/c I am flexible but did not like it ..... LOL... you know I was just talking to someone yesterday about how other players would attempt to "shark" me over the years... Including police officers in police tournaments... It has all come my way.....pretty sad....... (that's the worst b/c these guys are cops)... I look at it as they are not only sorry players but sorry people. I am so much of a better player than they are, on & off the table.

Yes. But it's sure hard to not let others' sharking affect your game. I sometimes try to kind of mentally step back outside my body, pretending I am just an observer looking on with amusement at the idiot's pathetic efforts to derail me.

It all comes down to ones confidence. When a player has confidence they can over come anything.

The Wire

If you are playing 14.1 keeping score with the wire is best IMO. What I like most is after a nice run you count up your beads and slide them over zip/snap great sound, also has a bit of a psychological component to it as your opponent watches you add up the points..

If i ever make it out to Chicago, i will definetly look you up.
The 14.1 scene out here is pathetic as far as i can tell, i get kids asking me what im playing when they see me racking 14 balls up, lol.
I am going to see Max next week myself, so i will definetly try to pick his brain and see if we can get something going in some way.
I would definetly go for it.
