Hey lamar,
It is pretty common knowledge, I just didn't know and she was kind enough to show me "some ropes". I have shown a few newer players myself, including your firend Angela. =)

I'm curious what that knowledge is? Vivian once told me that it was just as important to check that the back 3 balls were touching as the first 3 balls because if the back 3 balls are loose, the 9 has better chances of going in. Is what you are refering to the same?

Yes, esp the two behind the 9 the either BOTH need to be touching the 9 or they BOTH need to be NOT touching it..if one is and one is just a little off, then it is like a vacum sucking it toward the corner pocket...

Just noticed that Alice has started off well. I am rooting for her. Would be nice to see her finish higher than her personal best 5th or 6th (as I recall).

Good luck!

Yes, Alice's best finish was at WPBA Charlotte in 2001. I was in attendance and Alice really lit it up.

Well, once again, the seeded players are having a tough go of it, and, only seven have survived the first two winner's bracket rounds.

Undefeated:Corr, Webb, GY Kim, K Fisher, Thornfeldt, Hofstatter, Barretta
Beaten: A Fisher, Shaw, Nelson, Kelly, Ellerby, Lee, Villareal, Herndon, Chen

We may be looking at a cinderella story in Michigan City!

Hey, did you take a close list at the IPT player list, that is our Mr. Moore playing over there!

Hey cuechick,
There is a book out there that shows how to rack the balls for what the racker wish's. Do not recall the Title.

Stevie being there caught me off guard. BTW Stevie is still on the winners side. I wish him the BEST.
Stevie & I talked for quit awhile at the IPT Qualifer in Marietta, at that time Stevie advised me he was tired of the poolplayer life style. He was very happy with his new job.

I'm happy to see Stevie put his talent into the IPT world.

Are all of the tournaments now doing single elimination at 16? It appears that way. I hope Melissa Herndon can find her A-game, because she has Allison next. I was sad to see Vivian go out, but Alice vs. Jenn should be a good one.

I noticed in the last tournament (and this one as well) that only the semis and finals are ESPN races to 7. I liked when this format first started and the quarterfinals were also a race to 7. I think there are more surprise quarterfinalists than semifinalists. For instance, in the last tournament, we would've been able to see Kim Shaw (who hadn't been on TV for a while) and Val Finnie had the quarters been races to 7. But, I don't want to look a gift horse in the mouth. Any WPBA matches on TV are good to me.

Racking Book

Lamar, I believe you may be thinking of Joe Tucker's Racking Secrets. It was a standalone book years ago, but was recently republished as a section in Charley Bond's The Great Break Shot. Great and interesting information. Pick up a copy, it's worth it, IMO.

I've heard of them using this tourney format before, but was unaware they were using it here until they posted the brackets. All I know is I'm really looking forward to tomorrow evening's session as it will open up with the "final 16" matches. Nothing like single-elimination to pump up the pressure a bit.

SJM,

I will place Sharon Weis in top three for her looks ( very pretty lady).I am glad to know that is back.I hope that her friend from Providence, RI also returns to the tour. Sarah rousey will beat Dawn Fox 9-4.Dawn is from ohio.

Dawn Fox has recently moved to Virginia. She stayed at my brothers house during a WPBA qualifier in Columbus, Ohio at Bankshot Billiards last weekend. (My brothers wife played in the same qualifier and they are friends from thier league playing days in Dayton.

Hey ragbug74,
That is the book, I had a copy a few years back, I lost it.
Thanks ragbug74.

As I understand, prior to 2006 WPBA only used the 'Final 16 SE' bracket only 1 or 2 times a year. All other events were DE.

I was advised by a WPBA player a few months back, that all 2006 WPBA events will use 'Final 16 SE' format.

Names of the final 8 from the 1-Loss side are tossed into a hat, random draw, the players from the 1-loss side are then posted against 1 of the final 8 on the winners.

All WPBA races are to 9, except for the final 4 matches.
The final 4 matches are a race 7,(The matches we see on ESPN).

I believe the answer is no.
She has lost to an unseeded player less than five times in her career in any round of WPBA play.
Aww... that's a great acheivement for Xiaoting, but not the greatest moment for Allixong.

Hope Rousey is still going strong. (:
We can't be having all these suprises in Peoria this year...I have the way it needs to go all planned out, hah! :D

I just checked the brackets and Sarah is facing Ga-Young Kim tonight, which if she wins puts her in the final 16.

Also, Jennifer Barretta is still on the winners side facing Alice Rim.

I do hope Sarah and Jennifer make the top 16, so i can catch them on TV WOOT. I need to see some Eye Candy on TV lol. Ok i wouldnt go that far but they are cutie's

I remember that Alice won a few cliffhangers in that event. Seem to remember her beating Tiffany Nelson and then she beat Dawn Hopkins double-hill, before losing the match to Jennifer Chen that would have earned her a TV spot.

It was really a fun tournament. I remember it occurred during the 2001 US Open golf event and Jean Balukas and I kept sneaking out of the tournament room to check out the golf.

With deepest apologies, Vagabond, I don't remember your screaming. Very few fans really catch my attention through their behavior, although I'd have to admit, those Kim Shaw groupies that show up every year at WPBA Peoria are simply unorgettable.

I'll have to start paying more attenton when I sweat matches at WPBA events.

Im not sure what the WPBA has posted but Sarah lost heartbreaker hill/hill to GYK. Sarah broke at double hill, made a ball or two and looked like she had a real good chance to run the table. She made a couple of balls and had very little position space from which to shoot the 4 or 5 ball, She got on it but the shot was still tough and the ball hung. Normally this ball would have dropped but these pockets are tight. GYK cleaned up for the win.

Jennifer beat Alice in a very close match 9-7 i think. Gerda beat Hsin, Belinda beat Monica, Jeanette over Sue Yen, Vivian over O Strickland and Jennifer Chen over S Ellerby, Kelly F over Wendy, Alison over S Hurst, AT 12:30 MANY of the ladies were enjoying themselves at the bar, some in the deli and a few on the tables, GYK was going to change and then maybe play some "block jock".

Well, after a chaotic Thursday, there was a return to order in Michigan City on Friday.

Despite a woefully weak start, the top players seeemd to assert themselves on Friday, and 12 of the top 13 are still in with 24 left, with Karen Corr, GY Kim, Kelly Fisher, Helena Thornfeldt, Gerda Hofstatter, and Jennifer Barretta already through to the blind draw and two wins away from a TV appearance. Also through to the blind draw are veteran Belinda Calhoun and new sensation Pan Xiaoting. These eight are, seemingly, sitting pretty as far as earning a spot among the last eight in single elimination, but things are not always what they appear to be.

Each of these eight players will surely tremble during the blind draw as, if form holds, one of them will draw #1 Allison Fisher. In addition, if #3 Monica Webb can beat Kim Shaw, one of these eight will draw her.

Hence, one of the ladies sure to figure prominently today at Michigan City is Lady Luck! It should make for some high drama and great pool.
