Jeanette played well, but really looked to struggle with her back during the last half of her last match vs. Pan. Besides that, her game looked pretty strong.
Allison was in cruise mode in her earlier match yesterday evening vs Jen Barretta. I sat on the other side of the room for the Corr-Fisher match, so I didn't pay particular attention to it until the last few racks when it was the last match being played.
Kim White was SO thrilled to advance to the TV rounds. She was saying she couldn't wait to call someone back home and tell them she wouldn't be home this afternoon/evening as was probably planned. All the other ladies were happy for her as well with Jeanette throwing in a "good for you, you deserve it." Although they are competitors, all the girls pull for one-another which is a great show of sportsmanship and their freindships off the table. Kim looks like she's "in the zone" at the table. Watching some of her play yesterday, she seems to be playing a very simple, solid game. It seems like she's running out with minimal "risk" or extra cueball movement. If she can ignore the "Allison" factor and play the way she played yesterday, she could very well knock Allison off.
I talked to Sarah Rousey last night. She was a bit bummed because she felt she could have won either match she lost. She said she knows she can chalk it all up to experience and learn from those type of matches. I told her that's a good way of looking at it and keep up the good work.
Other random thoughts/observations: Vivian seems to be in her comfortable dancing-singing-whistling mode: always entertaining. JChenn missed an 8-ball on an attempted thin-brush safety at hill-hill vs Kim White earlier in the day. Needless to say, she returned to "the chair" and couldn't bear to watch Kim run out the clinching 2 balls. Finally, for her size, the young Pan has quite a strong break...probably one of the hardest I saw yesterday. Nice seeing/talking with you RSB-Refugee.
Well, I've got to hit the shower and head back for the TV taping of the semi's and finals.
Fading the "Allison Factor" is only part of the battle. Fading the "tv camera factor" is another part of the battle.ragbug74 said:If she can ignore the "Allison" factor and play the way she played yesterday, she could very well knock Allison off.
As a fan of the WPBA, I have to say, I am not a fan of this format. I understand it is a way for them to get new faces on TV, however, it is unfair to the players. IMHO, if one player loses twice before getting the boot, all players should be entitled to two losses.sjm said:Anyone think this format makes any sense? Perhaps it's best explained with a trivia question:
Question
What do Karen Corr, Gerda Hostatter, Ga Young Kim, Belinda Calhoun, Kelly Fisher, Jennifer Barretta, Pan Xiaoting, Helena Thornfeldt, Allison Fisher, Vivian Villareal, Kim White and Jeanette Lee have in common?
Answer
All twelve of them have exactly one loss at WPBA Michigan City. The tournament format in use has figured as prominently as the play in deciding which of the four will play on TV today.
I know lady luck will always be welcome in a women's event, but lady luck has had just a little too much influence for my taste at WPBA Michigan City.
