I would like to know your opinion of which is better! A Pool shooter, or a Pool player? And possibly why? Thanks for your input. They are different!

A pool shooter is someone who plays pool. A pool player is someone who shoots pool.
One isn't better that the other and it's just how it is used in context. For example, "man, he is a shooter!" or "that guy is a player". Interchangeable.
Pool Shooter - Anyone from a newbie to being pretty good, BUT they usually have played in bars mostly. Good open table shooters, but usually lack the finer points expertise, like banking, especially more than 1 rail, combos can be weak, safety play. They can be anywhere from a loud mouth drunk to pretty nice guys.
Pool Players - Grew up in Poolrooms mostly, may play in bars, but only to hustle money. They treat Pool as more of a sport instead of just a game.
They are more knowledgeable about Pool in general, the equipment, how to act, negotiating a match, etc.. When you become a player, you have reached a certain level of expertise in the sport. You also start to become known out and around, and usually you have gambled quite a bit, and for more than nickels and dimes.
Now, which is the better group? Well, shooters are the easiest to hustle and match up with, but players are the better group to be around in a general sense, but harder to negotiate with, match up with. Some players can be pretty boisterius sometimes, but the smart ones aren't.
Okay LNL, I'm going to give this a try.
Pool shooter: One who is a very good/great shotmaker but lacks skill in the pattern/safety/strategy aspects of pool.
Pool player: Not as good a shot as the "pure shooter", but excels in the strategy parts of the game and is better in the mental part of pool as well.
Myself, I do not fear the "pure shooter" as good defensive play/strategy can bring this type of player down to my level. Now, a person that isn't a pure shooter, but can kick out of safes, make balls AND get position with a jump cue, can lock you up "in jail" in a heartbeat, play great patterns, and mentally keep his sh*t together and still be able to shoot good enough to get out, that is the type of person I would rather not play for the cheese!!!
So I would say, using my criteria, that a pool "player" is better.
Is this what you were looking for LNL???

That is exactly what I thought when I read the OP. And I totally agree. I have matched up against some very good shot makers, but ended up winning, not because I out-shot them, but because I was able to out-play them.
Steve
Everyone that is a "player" should know what a "shooter" is. (did I just say that??What a goofy thread,,but it has a point,,I think)
Everyone starts out as a "shooter". And then after awhile(could be years) they start to realize that the high risk,,no fear way of shooting is not the best way to win. It takes playing better "players" to realize this. Or entering more tournaments/leagues ect...
I'm not sure if "player" and "shooter" are the best terms for this,,but I can't think of a better.
There's nothing wrong with a little showboating. When this risky way of playing works,,its impressive. But when it does not,,,it hurts.
Sometimes I play a little too conservative. I like the player/shooter option.lol Conservative but not afraid to get aggressive at times!!! It will ruin the hopes of your opponent. lol ( I think that is called the zone!!)
one group is professionals the other isn't. The rest is self explanatory

Please define a professional poolplayer. It's hard to figure out where the line is drawn between what an amateur is and where the "pro" level begins. Very hard.
Not trying to hijack the thread though!!!
