There are Pool Angels

Very nice story. Brought me to tears.
When I read the heading of of your thread, I immediately thought of my own mother. (now mind you, I hadnt read the story yet)

Yes Mike, I think there are Pool Angels.:)

My angel, her name was Charlotte Smith. She was my mother.
She died in a motorcycle accident (as a passenger) on May 13th,2005.

I feel her around me all the time.
Maybe her and Olivia have met.:)
I hope so. Your mother sounds like a wonderful person just like my mom.

Take Care,
Andrea

I can see why you made the drive. It's a beautiful table in a great looking pool room. To top it all off you have a very special interest in the table.

I've been meaning to call someone about a table I used to play on in Ohio. It was in harsh condition when I last played on it over 14 years ago so I can't imagine what it looks like now. I still want that table very badly.

this story is awesome and you pool room is just great.. you are an envieable man!

Also great to hear your dog is doing fine now.

It was a great efford you put in that table, lets hope it becomes an heirloom of your family for a couple of more generations, the story alone makes it worth it!

Thanks to All.

Thanks "Milo" your story brought tears to my eyes.
Thanks: 'Tigerseye", 'Girlcanrunout", "Avather" and "Gunzby" (try to locate that Table. There are craftsmen out there that will refinish that table and make it look like the table of your dreams).

New Cloth

I am putting on that new Light Blue 860 Simonis. I think it will make the room a little brighter. I think it needs it.

Great story. I love the pool room. The table looks a lot like the one I'm in the middle of "overhauling", though its not as old.

Mom's are special, and it sounds like yours was a bit extra special.

That's a great pool table you got there and a very nice room that it sits inside of! Hope that one day, my pool room will look that nice.

Great Story

Brings me back to when I was a kid begging my parents to buy a table - I knew from a very early age I was going to play this game the rest of my life. I had the pleasure of playing Mike this weekend - he is a pretty spiffy straight pool player and hell of a nice guy. Cant wait for the invite to play on that piece of history he's got.

What a story!

Wow, that really was a good story, you now have a great conversation piece as well as a tournament pool table.

Great Story

That is a great story, one to be treasured and passed on. I agree with Jay, it should be published, maybe as an editorial/personal story in one of the billiard magazines. Your setup has a nice classic look, very inviting. Enjoy your memories of youth again.

Angels

Thanks Mike ,You are bringing up lots of lost memories.Great story my friend.

great story

I too owned a plywood table my parents bought for me to keep me out of the local pool hall, didn't work. I think it just fuled my fire for pool. I know you must of gone nuts when you got the real thing. I too was 16 in 1968. I got my slate table in 1986 and put it up in my basement. Only to sell the table and house six years later.

You've got a great set up and you must have a load of fun with your old friend. Loved the story! Thanks for sharing.

Have you ever noticed that life seems to travel in a circular path? Galaxies spin around the universe, stars around a galaxie, planets around a star. And so spins our lives, from birth to death. And, what's really amazing is how mothers are always there beside you, at either end. A wonderful story, especially at this time of year.

@14-1StraightMan

i am really not grown up close to water....but your story moved me to tears. I just imagined how proud your mom and your dad must have been, when they surprised you with that table.......
They re all still with us my dear,

Thank you for your comments they mean a lot. The story is so dear to me, specially around the Holidays.
Thanks to: Ratta, Tramp Steamer & Hank for the recent posts.

Somehow I missed this the first time around. Glad I didnt this time.
I know there were smiles in heaven when you started looking into finding the table. to find it and be able to bring it home is priceless.

Thanks... Now you have me excited. About 15 years ago I gave up something that my father gave to me because I was young and dumb. I have always wanted to try and find it and get it back.
I took the first steps in doing so today even before posting this.

Enjoy your table in your awesome pool room.
