The problem with pool is that it's not really a spectator sport. As a player, I don't particularly like to watch other people play. I'd rather be playing myself. That being said, I think a movie about the development of a player from his (or her) youth, to winning a world championship would appeal to a pretty wide audience. Watching someone work hard and eventually reach the pinnacle of their chosen craft, I think, would appeal to a lot of people. Everyone loves a winner. If someone in the United States made a movie about pool with no gambling, Would it be of interest...
What i was thinking is that players from this AZb could write a pool movie, each one could contribute to the script , Judge as goes along then turn down or approve as a whole body... A movie about the good side of pool life, Not the bad... If on this earth there are a hundred and fifty million people playing pool then the people the players know could be an audience... A black young man or woman up through life starting with dad . Room owner teaching young to live pool and become a best... This could be done... Ford, I'm an old man and say four years ago in a bowling alley where I used to practice on an 8' table up by an entrance window. All by myself just 14.1 style of play, people leaving the alley would stop and watch , many would jump up and down when the last ball was pocketed , always a loud clap from the people... Sometime their could be maybe 25 or 30 people... No gambling, No smoking, No booze just an old man by himself... GuyIt's true that 'family' pool rooms are populated by kids and parents, and that's fine. I'm glad that smoking is prohibited. It stunk up the rooms. Drinking is still allowed in many establishments but you can't play great pool if you're drunk, no matter what Fats and Eddie did in 'The Hustler'. But I was talking about 'great' pool; the top echelon of players. There's always going to be money changing hands. If not between the players, then among the spectators. It just ain't interesting playing pool for fun.
OK, but no one is going to pay money to watch a 'Guy' run racks of balls, are they?Ford, I'm an old man and say four years ago in a bowling alley where I used to practice on an 8' table up by an entrance window. Guy - I'm also an old man, and after 30 years, stopped smoking in 2000. We can forget about smoking in the movie. We need to promote an up-to-date image.Ford, I'm an old man and say four years ago in a bowling alley where I used to practice on an 8' table up by an entrance window. I wonder, it's hard for us to know, As a player... there's lots of people on this forum, Would it be of interest ... What if one wrote a page or a chapter then pass it on too another member, could take forever, I understand lots of movies take forever... Each day 1or 2 members chime in on this... ? GuyOK, but no one is going to pay money to watch a 'Guy' run racks of balls, are they?
This movie would have to stay on the positive, good side of life, No bad, enough bad, something different, something to sell the good side... Like that Morgan Freeman movie Fair something island Grumpy old man with little girl neighbors, lots of heart , care, but good side of life with pool through the movie and the love for games... GuyIt doesn't have to be based on a true story, it DOES have to have an emotional back story.
It could be about a boy who's dad introduces him to pool, he takes to it like a fish to water. He trains and trains to get to the level he needs to be at and then gets into a bad relationship causing him to lose the mental side of the game. He spends years away from serious competition, only to fight through his demons and get back to the highest levels of competition.
It could culminate with a win at the world Championships or the US Open.
Jaden
Well then that would be wrong... No bad, just good...You just pretty much described 'The Color Of Money'.
Who the _uck watches the Hallmark Channel?Maybe Hallmark could make it into a Christmas movie. They have their own studio and can produce a movie cheap. A big city business woman comes home to visit her family at the family owned pool hall. While there, she meets a hometown hunk who shows her the magic of Christmas and the magic of a well executed draw shot. She falls in love with him and the game. They get married in a wedding where all the pool players make a arch for them to walk through with their sticks. They take over the business when her grandparents decide it's time to retire and the spirit of Christmas lives on.
No, Just the envy of the actor or actress showing how to get to the point to become the best that ever was... GuyA movie can be long and boring.
What would the pool moment in the pool focused movie be?
The moment that inspires people to visit a pool room. Or visit a pro event, or take lessons from a pro.
Lots of Mom and Dads, Not trying to sell bad , just trying to sell good side of pool. Just weight the odds on the quanity of people vs pool players and sell pool to the world, In ways this is what MR is doing... GuyWho the _uck watches the Hallmark Channel?
How about a clone of making knives from scratch.
Forged In Wood…you have 8 hours to build a cue.
