Things I need for my first cue?

willard tip tool nickel radius. dime is ridiculous.

+1 for the Willard, but I would disagree about the 'dime'.
For tips with a 13 to 12.75 mm diameter, use a nickle. For those that are smaller, a dime is fine.

I always just carried a Willards dime. Never seemed to need much more than that. ;)

Good luck.

I always carried 120 or 240 in a 1x1 that's it....minimalist

No one ever believes it but the less you jack with your shaft and tip and just keep the shaft and your hands clean. Don't use 30 tips of English and you will play better, get out more and be happier with your equipment too.

Tips and shafts don't need exfoliation like the ladies and gentlemen shopping at bath and body works

I noted that you recommend Master chalk for the pocket chalk holder. And apparently your pool room is also next to a Super 8 Motel. I think all the best ones are. :)

I really like the kamui gator grip. I don't really use anything else other than a willard's nickel. I think it's super over priced, but if I lost it, I would get another one.

Well no and no,, personally I prefer magic chalk just haven't cut a deal with RJ yet .
I don't know if I want to add another 5 bucks to the high price I charge.
They are extremely high priced as it is .. With the hrs involved I would make better money flipping burgers ......

The car was at a hot rod meet , parked in front of the super 8 motel.
I wished it would of been cloudy or I would of brought a ND filter and a tripod .

I am learning photography, so I take allot of photos and post them .

I've mentioned in few threads that I'm coming back to pool after many years and getting a decent cue. I'm trying to figure out a few things about tip care.

I bought a McDermott GS-06, btw. It's on order and will come in about a week. I watched a video on how to use a 5-in-1 tips tool, so I got one. It looks simple enough to use...on the video, anyway. It makes sense that tip care is so important.

Something tells me this might be a hotly debated topic, but I'm wondering also about what tip diameter I should use. I have a feeling that everyone has their preference. Am I right? I figured I'd go with nickel size simply because I figure I could use a larger hitting surface in the beginning. Am I seeing this right, or is there a reason why dime size might be better for a bad beginner?

I bought the Jim Rempe training ball so I can learn a quicker how to correct mistakes. And for those who helped me with earlier question, I did buy a glove for my right hand. I have a good feeling that it will help with my bridging issues.

Get yourself some kind of shaft maintenance product. At the least, you want something to burnish your shaft (ex. Q wiz) in order to keep it smooth and slick.
