thinking about moving to Atlanta Area

I don't know what your needs are in a home but you will save a lot of money if you get just 20 minutes further away from Metro Atlanta. Those bedroom communities can be pricey, though there are no doubt still some deals available.

I chose to live 80-100 miles west of Atlanta. Moved here from Dallas, TX. My utility bills out here are 10% of what they were in Dallas and I got three times the home for my money that I could have gotten either in Dallas or in the Atlanta metro.

There some factory jobs in the area. Some carpet mills up in the Cartersville area and further north. Lots of service and hospitality jobs, lots of car dealers who need salesmen, lots of retail jobs.

The towns that surround Atlanta like Marietta, Douglasville, Acworth, Villa Rica, etc, make Atlanta a place you do not need to go. I have lived here for 11 years and have never been to downtown Atlanta.

(but WHERE are you, Jerry - in Alabama?)

the problem w/ buying inside the loop (285), is all of the hidden HO costs/fees @ $600/mo. you can STEAL a "condo/townhome" @ $0.25/$1.00, but the HOAs will kill the deal. however, you get PARKING, gym, concierge, etc for this.
if you buy/rent just outside the loop (x99/Jimmy Carter), get a place that's near Marta. then you can have the best of both worlds & hop a train @ 10mins & be downtown - if you want.

but again, Jerry's right.

Atlanta Metro is separated into 6 sectors.
and each sector is so-oooo built up, that you never have to leave your area.
just be careful where you buy - cause MidTown East (VA Highlands), is gay. MidTown West and DownTown are crack hill. Perimeter is affluent/business & over-priced. if you're planning on being downtown/midtown, make sure that you live based on TRAFFIC. ATL is worse than LA traffic! be close to ALL highways - 85, 141, Buford Hwy, 400 - so that you can always get home. (these are all WEST of 85).

and don't move, till you have a job. i've got people still unemployed after 4 yrs @ ATL.
 
There is a nice community called 7 Hills in Dallas GA that is about 13 miles north from Kennesaw and Marietta with reasonable home prices including some under $200k
