This L.O. bored with plain old trophies and plaques

at league last Wednesday I broke and ran out playing 8 ball.
I asked my team captain if we get extra points for that. He said "You get an atta boy and a pin"
A pin? How about 5 extra points on the team total?
I don't need a pin to show i broke and ran out on a 7 foot table.
It's no big deal.

Funny you say that because I feel the same way. And in our league if you break and run you get 10 extra points and if you run out on your opponents break you get 5 extra points.

Here are some bead rolled plaques with pinstriping that a hot rod shop did for fun. Would be easy to get personalized trophies for pool.

Rat Fink is already associated to the lucky 8-ball, afterall.

Our NAPA LO pays out cash for B&R's, snaps, and for the session payouts. Everyone seems to be happy with that. Some like the trophy's and trinkets given out. Not trying to be rude or unthankful, but if I receive a trophy/plague I usually leave them at the Bar. I have enough stuff at home already. When one of our teams leave a Tavern plague, I chuck them in the trash, that's a big waste of dues and league fee's. Brian.

I have been hoping to win one of these.......

cash

Other than cash? Seriously?

What do I like next to that? I'll take the cue of the guy that lost if he does not have the cash to pay up. I have only ever had to do that twice. Once a McDermott and once a Predator. :)

But I have a feeling such a thing won't work in a league.

I don't wish to come off overly critical though. I think it's great you are trying to think outside the box and are looking for creative ideas.

I don't play in leagues but I'll be very curious to see where it leads.

.

I won my first trophy as a teenager bowling in the 1950s, and by 1986, I had amassed approximately 100 such things from bowling and pool I got tired of storing and moving them, so I took off the nameplates and saved them in a cigar box. So I still had something to occasionally look at to bring back old memories...unfortunately a friend inadvertently threw them away.

When I ran pool leagues in the 1960s, I gave trophies to the championship team and their sponsor. The leagues I ran in more recent times gave no trophies, but extra cash prizes for sportsmanship and individual high average (three places). The latter helped discourage sand-bagging, though I saw very little of this in my many years playing in VNEA and BCA leagues anyway.

I also worked to get prizes donated by local businesses to give away in drawings at the league season-ending pay-off party.

Yet you think it deserves more points like it is something special why?

Do it about 50% like the pros and then maybe someone will think you are actually something special and give you more than a high five.

Had the same for baseball and softball trophies, over 30 years worth. Moved to a new house 15 years ago, so decided to sell them at a garage sale. Sold them all to one guy, a baseball coach, for $1 each, who said he'd remove the name tags and use them for the teams he coaches, so at least they got recycled.

Now have 15 years worth of pool trophies and gonna down size within 2 years, and this time I won't sell them, I will recycle them and give them out at some local tourneys, or the teen center that has a pool table, etc.

Actually, it is. It's the equivalent of a HOME RUN. Though, it does not need any "bonus" points, cause even a 500 foot home run only counts as one run, the same as a guy that gets "walked' in ;)

Made by Javier Chirino for the Miami APA Cities event. Javier makes all the trophies for Tony Crosby's tour down here in Florida as well as many other events.
