This may be a silly question- What does bar box mean ?

I thought it was really silly when I seen that they came out with a Bar Box line of cues.

Most pool halls in recent years have mostly, or at least 50% 7 foot bar tables.

I understand, in the old days, most pool halls probably had all regulation size 9 foot tables, but ever since the bar leagues got really popular, some pool halls may have switched out their 9 foot tables for 7 foot tables.

I "regulation size" pool table only means that it is twice as long as it is wide. 7', 8', 9' & 10' tables can all be "regulation tables".

No, "regulation" refers to meeting the WPA equipment specs, which call for a 9-foot (nominal) table (actual play area 100x50 inches, with a rail-and-cushion width of between 4 and 7 1/2 inches.

WPA equipment specs also describe an 8-foot table. I'm guessing any common size pool table with a 2 x 1 playing area would be allowed.

There was a restaurant/pool hall around here that had three 6-foot tables. It was a real challenge at the start of an 8-ball rack. Lots of innings for everyone.

A lady took over a bar in Baton Rouge many years ago and put in a six foot table. It wasn't but a week or two before unhappy players made her put in a seven footer.

I think the regulation twice as long as it is wide predates the WPA and will be here after they are gone. Not counting toy tables I have seen pool tables from six to twelve feet long and I think blackball is mostly played on five foot tables.

Played a bunch in Dallas strip joints on the glorious 3x6 Valley with the big cueball. Great action in those spots. Pretty good pool too. ;)
I ate breakfast every day for a week at a restaurant down south that had a six foot.
Every day I gave myself three tries to break and run at 8-ball....21 tries....zero runouts

One of the few places that would let me drink hard liquor and shoot pool when I was fifteen was a naked dancing lady places around the corner from my business and just a mile or two from home. Easy pickings on the seven footers and when a fifteen year old could shoot pool with the girls in "uniform" and dancing on a stage next to the pool table I was pretty much shark proof! I miss those days when life was simple.

Bar Box:: a small commerical pool table most often with felt instead of cloth, questionable bumpers, wide pockets, and you get the balls by inserting coins into a slot.

Games played on a bar box cannot allow for spotting of the ball if it is pocketed against the rules of the game.

Barbox means crazy fucking 8 balls rules.
Crazy rules that they often try to change two or three times in the course of a handful of games if you are a stranger in a strange land. When it is easy to make both balls it was often possible to pocket the eight on the same shot as the last ball. Some places had no conditions, some places the object ball had to fall first. Rattle the pocket with the object ball and the eight ball falls first, you lose!

I remember a bar in northern Michigan where I had a cabin that had a 3x6. The closest I ever came to getting into trouble shooting pool was in that place. There were 3 huge guys, brothers I think, that were taking turns playing and I beat them something like 20 games in a row of $2 8 ball. One started to follow me out when I left but I got in my truck and was gone. The next time I went there the bartender told me they beat the hell out of a guy who was sitting at the bar minding his own business and sent him to the hospital. I also got laid a time or 2 in that place.
