Teddy Garrihan has won three matches in a row, as has Francisco Bustamante. Oliver Ortmann won all of his matches too.

Earl Strickland was hanging out in the hallway, sharing a few breaking strategies. He said if you turn your front foot 330 degrees, it will help your break. I'm not sure what that means, but I always listen when Earl speaks. He's in great spirits and has everyone laughing in the hallways.

Efren has also won every one of his matches, as has Gary Abood who got in on a qualifier.

James Walden is sweating it right now with one win and two losses. He needs to win his next match. Ronnie Wiseman is in the same boat, with one win and two losses. His next opponent is Efren Reyes.

Shane Van Boeing is out, with three losses. I spoke to him in the hallway, and, of course, he's disappointed, but I'm sure we'll be seeing this young sharpshooter once again at the next event.

Kevin Trudeau just walked up to me, as I was writnig this thread. We chatted a bit, and he said tomorrow all 120 remaining players will be competing at one time to advance. The time clock will be in full force, so there will be no room for slow play. This match is worth $5,000, going from $5,000 earnings to $10,000 earnings if they win.

That's about it for now!

Thanks much Jennie. Boy I wish they could have just one little webcam in that place. That combined with your narrative would be perfect...
Crossing my fingers for you and Keith!

No room for slow play?
Danny Basavich better chug down about 20 coffees then!:D

Thanks Jam for the most awesome reporting, much appreciated.

Gabe Owens is playing Efren Reyes right now. Gabe has won all three of his matches. I got to meet "Gabesmom," and Gabe sure does look a lot like her. She's a sweetie pie.

Karl Boyles, Hennessee from Tennessee, Dics from Europe, and Marlon Manalo have won all of their matches at the time of this writing.

John Wimms is from Kildare in Ireland (although they have him listed as Australian) he is Irish :)

John is a good player but IMO, Shane was the favorite in that match, a VERY good win for John.

He is an Australian and for this tournament he is rooming with an Australian (David RelJlic).Cheers

JAM rules...

JAM...I can't say enough about how great you are at making all of us feel like we are there. It sure puts a smile on my face and adds a sense of nostalgia - being around the best international field of pool players and hearing about the ongoings. I am very new to AZ, but I can tell that I will definitely try to get more involved - as your contributions to the forum are priceless...

Good luck to you and Keith. One of the guys I traveled with to the Glass City tourney has some dice that Keith was shooting with some guys on the practice table one night. By the way any updates on Breedlove, Groce and Barger would be nice as I used to be from the Indy area.

If you all like Jam's reporting then feel free to contribute to JAM's wireless fund over in the main forum. We are trying to gather together enough money to buy her a wireless cellular card and a year's subscription. That way she can post anytime from anywhere.

I'm probably the only one who cares but there is no 's' in in Gabe's last name -Owen it is.

Unfortunately, the DOS in XP isn't a complete package. When I use my macro software for WP5.1, which is FlashFoward, the computer freezes. I can pull up documents and edit them in DOS on the XP computer, but transcribing is impossible. If I execute a WP macro, the XP DOS doesn't recognize it sometimes. Believe me, I have tried to transcribe in XP using the XP DOS, but it's faulty. It may depend on the OEM software too. I'm getting ready to purchase a new Dell XP computer when I return home for my Internet computer. Even though it will have the DOS prompt under accessories, I am doubtful it will be completely compatible with WP5.1 and FlashForward. However, each OEM software is different. My home Internet computer is a Compaq, and maybe the Dell OEM softwre will be more compatible with WP5.1 and FlashForward.

Something perfect for you would be this. Vmware. It creates a "Virtual Machine" that runs any operating system inside the one you have on your PC. They even have a free player that will play Virtual Machines. So say I created a Virtual Machine that was Dos 6.22 and sent that to you. You could open it up and it would be like you had Dos 6.22 installed on your PC. It is very cool stuff. You turn it on, it boots up to a Bios screen, it looks exactly like another pc inside of the one your running. You can transfer files from on to the other. Loads better then using multi-boot software that allows you to install multiple OS's on your PC and then choose which one when you turn it on. Vmware allows you to boot into XP and then "Turn on" any OS you want. And it's all contained in just a few files. Check it out....http://www.vmware.com/products/ws/ Sorry for posting off topic in this thread and thanks so much for all the updates for us not there!

I will have to look into that, as it sounds ideal for me. I am sick of transcribing in Windows 98 for sure. If I can get my co-workers to move up to the technology age, that would be a win-win for me.

We stayed until the end of the 8:00 p.m. matches. The very last match of the night was a nail-biter, and all eyes were on the two kids, Danny "Kid Delicious" Basavich and Austin Murphy. Each one was fighting to advance to the next round, and whoever won this match would win the honors, and it came down to the infamous hill-hill. Austin was playing excellent and looked as if he was going to run the rack, but he flubbed a long shot, leaving it hanging in the pocket AND scratching, giving Danny ball in hand. Instead of running out, Danny elected to play a safety, which Austin missed, giving Danny ball in hand once more. Instead of utilizing the 3-foul rule, Danny ran out and pocketed the 8-ball for the almighty win. It was a real heart-breaker for Austin, as he played so well at this event.

Other tight matches were Corey Deuel and Ronnie Wiseman, which also went to the double hill, with Corey coming out on top. Ronnie needed this win to advance.

Scott Frost at the time of this writing is sweating it big time as he is tied with Dallas West to advance. Both have the same amount of break-and-runs, and whoever comes out on top will be published soon.

While the last matches were going on, I noticed Charlie Williams, Marcus Chamat, and several other players practicing as long as they kept the room open.

We're going to bed early and rising at 6:00 a.m., Vegas time. The tournament room opens at 8:00 a.m. for practice, and we intend to be there, with the first round to begin at 10:00 a.m. Keith's bracket is a toughie with Dennis Hatch, George Breedlove, Sammy Jones, John Schmidt, and a player I'm not familiar with named Fu.

Best of Luck!

JAM I picked Keith as one of my winners and I'm glad to hear he cleared the first round. Your updates are terrific! Have a great time out there! And good rolls to Keith!

Har. Every time I see the nickname "Kid Delicious" it reminds me of this goofy band I heard of back in Atlanta (where I grew up). Dunno if they're still around or not. The band name was "Dick Delicious and the Tasty Testicles".

:P

Jennie, I'd seriously look into the newer versions of your transcribing software that someone else mentioned earlier. Emulators like VMWare eat up some serious CPU action, and it sounds like your laptop may not be up to the task. You can snag yourself a decent new laptop for around $1k if you wanted to go that route. Do you recall how long ago (what year) you got your current laptop?

Make Keith go hustle some cash for a new rig for you while you're in Vegas. :D

We're here in the tournament room, first ones to arrive once more! Next walks in Shawn Putnam, Sammy Jones, Ralf Souquet, and Keith Bennett.

The numbers on the IPT Aramith balls, I had heard, were raised a bit. I'm definitely not a "pool scientist" that can evaluate the disadvantage of having the numbers raised a bit, but Shawn Putnam said it's like playing golf with an egg-shaped ball. I am hoping that the cloth today plays a little better after two solid days of play. The first day, balls were skidding and hopping for some players.

Scott Frost got in by the hair of his chinny chin chin, over Dallas West in his bracket, and he's one happy camper.

I've already had my triple-shot cappie at one of the many coffee shops here at the Venetian. There won't be much time to do anything else today, but play pool. Personally, I'm a little bummed out that Keith has to play his first match on the TV table. Right now, it's impossible to practice on that table because there are no overhead lights yet. All of the Diamond tables, though, most likely play similar. The pockets, I had heard are even tighter than 4-1/2 this time. As I remember it at the KOTH, the pockets were 4-1/2 inches, but now they are 4-1/4. That's why some folks think the players are missing "easy shots."

The green room is cool-looking. Though I'm not allowed inside it, I peaked in the black curtains and saw several large floral arrangements with a buffet set up, including an array of fresh-squeezed orange juice, grapefruit juice, cranberry juice, and all kinds of pastries. The players seem to be taking advantage of it, eating their meals inside. Only the players who are left in the touranment can go inside the green room. If you are not playing or got knocked out, you can't get in.

Well, today is certainly do-or-die day for all players. Let's get ready to rumble, and may the best man/woman win!

They don't let main squeezes of participating players have any juice?

For shame! :) One would think, if they're tossing out $2mil at the end of the week, they could afford some more juice.

Keep us updated as you can.

I can transcribe in any software, but my problem is that every single person who works with me is using WP5.1 in DOS. When you split jobs up, it's a pain in the neck having to merge files together if they are using different software. Sometimes WP5.1 doesn't convert EXACTLY correct in Word, for example, depending on your top and bottom margins, line spacing, footers, page numbers, et cetera.

I'm planning on getting me a new computer when I get back home. It's a tax write-off for me, which I do need each year. I have no way to hide any income, as everything I earn is paid by credit card. So there is a paper trail. One thing I learned at a very young age is it's not nice to fool Uncle Sam. So, when I file, I do so honestly, at least to the best of my abilities.

There's no hustling or gambling here with these players, at least this week. Every single one of them is concentrating on this tournament and couldn't care less about gambling, even the most notorious gamblers. I really like the comradery I am seeing this week between the players, and it's very nice to see everyone getting to know each other. We've made some great new friends. Brian Saleh of England is a joy to be around. He's got personality-plus. I feel bad that he didn't advance, coming all this way, but as I told him, at least he's an IPT member and won't have to qualify to get back in. There's several more tournaments down the road for him to make his mark. He's got two little babies and a wife back in England. His dad just passed away recently, and the IPT means a great deal to him. He's trying with all his might to utilize his skills set and gain some new knowledge along the way. Hey, he's only in his early thirties, and though he may be a little "green," as Keith calls it, he is wise beyond his years. What a gentleman!

I'm surprised aramith's name would appear on any balls that aren't within .005" of perfect roundness. Can anyone verify if the numbers are seriously raised, or are the players imagining things under the pressure?

-Andrew

I was just talking to Tom Storm out in the hallway. Though he advanced, he was disqualified in one of his matches against England's Daryl Peach. Tom was here in the tournament room watching several matches from the stands when the clock struck the golden hour for him to play. He was not, however, at his table right at the EXACT time the match was supposed to begin, and apparently, there is no "grace period" of 5 minutes for him to make an appearance. He said that he was lucky to advance since he was disqualified with an 8-zip score on his record, poor fellow.

I actually heard this from more than one player about the raised numbers. Gerry Watson also said the same thing, that the numbers were raised a bit. Shawn Putnam explained it to me that when you have the numbers put on "hard plastic" and then there are temperature changes, this will happen, just like with a cue stick that could be damaged when exposed to temperature changes.
