High Gear

looks like the old man or is he The Kid(Bata) is shifting to high gear now... it's really hard to bet against The Magician if BIG Money is on the line... remember he won all the big money tournament in Pool.. Tokyo Open, Color of Money, King of The Hill... etc...

Efren Reyes over Raj Hundal, 8 to 1, in the second match of today's Round 3.

Earl is on the hill against Gary Abood, 7 to 4, at the time of this writing.

The IPT site has Hundal beating Reyes 8 to 1. Can you confirm the score please JAM?

Earl Strickland over Gary Abood, 8 to 5.

Fu from China won his match, but I can't remember the name of his opponent. Lost of international players I'm unfamiliar with.

Colin knows Fu's background, a Chinese snooker players. He said he's post up a little bio later.

Efren just seems to thrive under the pressure these big money evens come with. It doesn't hurt that he is one of the best cash game players in the world and is used to playing higher stakes matches.

Dennis Hatch loses 8 to 3. It's a player I'm not familiar with who beat him, either Youngers of Beau-something or another.

Just been on the phone with the folks getting a blow by blow account of Ronnie playing Busta on TV. Now lets just say their knowledge of pool is pretty limited BUT interesting none the less.

Basically it was obvious even to them that Ronnie cant Break and "the busta guy just smashes them so quick I can't see if one goes in" lol They also said ROnnie seems pretty relaxed and keeps laughing at hie own break but when he gets to the table "he pots them all in seconds" lol

Last I heard Ronnie was 6:5 up  , but then Busta made it 6:6!!!

He's effectively giving up a MASSIVE spot with the break but still competing - Come on Ronnie! :D

Manalo's cell phone just seemed to ring there as he was down on the shot! He's 6-5 v Gabe Owen.

Someone mentioned players making sure they begin practicing on the same equipment. I have a friend with a 9' Diamond Pro that we are currently practicing on. You can not get lazy on the corner pockets.

JAM - Have you heard from any of the pro's if it is the pocket dimensions or the cloth that is giving them the bigger fit. I know that there were many players dry breaking, and I also heard of several players that have hung balls up in the corners. Thanks again for all of your updates!!

Ronnie lost 6-8, but he gave Bustamante a lot of problems. If Ronnie learns to break the balls he will be formidable for sure. He sang "I Feel Good" by James Brown between racks lol.

Bustamante was not overly impressive and Ronnie might easily have beaten him. Having said that neither player was making much on the break.

Don't open that can of worms, please. :p

Didn't know Jianbo Fu played snooker. There are a lot of good young players coming out of China now in that sport. Young Marco Fu of Hong Kong and Ding JunHui (sp?) are very good.

Actually he probably used to play Snooker "but just a little bit", he's DEF a pool player now, look at his stroke! Just teasing mate, I didn't either but he sure is having a great tournament! ALso good for the IPT in Asia/China.

Timb...just kidding petel...."I Feel Good"

You gotta love Ronnie, singing lol

Sandor Tot beats John Schmit, 8 to 7, on the infamous hill-hill. Sandor is 1and 1 so far in Round 3.

I was talking to Earl Strickland out in the hallway. He said he found his break on this equipment. Instead of the previous foot placement of 330 degrees, he said he's putting all of his weight BEHIND him, with his legs spread out long, and he's hitting 'em hard as he can. Earl is on a roll.

I'm standing here with Vincent Goh from Singapore. He said there's some very tough players and that you really need to be on your game and play well in order to get through.

Vincent said to watch out for Fu from China. He's beaten Orcollo already 8 to 7, ran 4 racks in that match, and in the next match against Ivan Putnick from Croatia, he ran four consecutive racks again. He's breaking well and is the guy to watch. This is the very first time Fu has played outside of China. He doesn't understand one word of what's going on, not being able to speak English very well, but he's making a good showing here in Vegas. He's the player who's making strides, the dark horse, if you will.

The pockets are giving the players fits. They're so tight that you can't slam a ball in hard with authority. Rather, a medium speed works. If you hit it very hard and it is not EXACT, the ball will wobble and not fall in. On TV, it must look like the players are missing easy shots, but that's not the case. These pockets at 4-1/4 are very, very tough.

Why is Efren playing? I thought he was the current King of the Hill. Shouldn't he be waiting for the winner like Sigel did in the last tournament?
