This Was a Fine Event

I'd like to take note of how much more I enjoyed the 2005 World Summit of Pool than the 2004 World Summit of Pool.

Some were wary of having it at Slate, but Slate proved a great venue, with the only negative being that the temperature was too high in the back half of the room. Still, the two front tables, on which most of the marquee matchups were played, were great. Enough good seating, and even if you had to stand, you could still see the matches very clearly. Free admission speaks for itself, a wonderful gesture by those who organized and financed the event.

The TV rounds at ESPN Zone also had free admission, and there was sufficient seating and an electric atmosphere. I admired the idea a year ago of having an event in Grand central Station, but from a fan's point of view, this year's event was a major upgrade over last year.

Congratulations and thanks to the UPA, Blatt Billiards, ESPN Zone and to all others who made this fine event happen. A job well done!

Thanks for the kind words.

Every year I figure out a little more about what makes for an exciting event. For me, the two feaured tables turned out to be the biggest revelation. The early evening matches especially had an incredible buzz to them because everyone's attention was focused on them. I'll be sure to have featured tables at all future World Summits.

Also, no offense to Carmine Sardo, but I thought Alicia, the Sardo Tight Rack girl, was a big upgrade for the TV matches at ESPN Zone.

The same tired old rack jokes, the lame hoots, whistles and hollers, the grade school giggling, elbowing etc. All remnants of class and dignity out the window.

I like women as much as most but Id rather they kept Carmine.

Still in all of course-an Excellent Event!

Still Im concerned over ESPN requirement of playing the game only to 7. Since we dont see the whole match any way why cant they do a good race to 11 and edit from there. They wouldnt cut a Big golf tourney down to 9 holes. Why would they do it for the championship in pool. I think the longer the race the more exciting and the bigger test

this was always my contention, so the logic of "because it's for tv" made no sense.

bur i think i figured out why............after they get done taping bass fishing, there's just enough space on their recorders for truncated pool matches.

9ball bores me. so now i go to watch personalities and styles. i didn't bother attending this one.
