Has anyone else noticed this about Engert? He's always sticking out his tongue when he's playing. I think he's quite a character, and probably the most expressive of the Germans.

Reptiles such as snakes stick their tongues out too. I think it has something to do with detecting scents in the air or something. LOL. ;-)

I have to say that I took a liking to Engert. Of the Germans and Austrians (Engert, Hohmann, Souquet, Ortmann, Ouschan and Felder), I found him to be the only true "old schooler" when it came to the tactical aspects of the game.

Through the round of sixteen, Allen Hopkins, who, possibly excepting Nick Varner, probably had more tactical weaponry than any player in the field, was thriving on trapping his opponents in the defensive portion of the matches. His match against the young and gifted Nico Otterman was a clinic in how to win with defense. Allen's wonderful safety play coupled with his dependability as an offensive technician made him one of the best stories of the event.

Engert was the only player I saw that had his way with Hopkins in the safety play, and he did not fall into the traps Hopkins had succeeded with against many opponents along the way. Great defense bought Engert some extra chances in the quarterfinal, and the result was ablowout victory.

Engert is a wonderful player, but it wasn't until this week that I realized he was a wonderful 14.1 tactician, too.

So glad he and his tongue made it to this event.

Bill Murray?

Looks like Bill Murray from Caddyshack to me. I should copy this to the old post about players that look like celebrities
