Thorsten is Out!!! First round!

Not necessarily. 5 break and runs is differnent from running 5 racks. Running 5 racks implies continous racks - ie a "5-pack"...

No matter what, that is superb play. I'm not taking anything away from Loree. In this tournament, as well as the last one - there was DAYS worth of matches by dozens of super-pro men who never managed to put up 5 B&R's in a single match...

Just thought of something interesting. Hypothetically speaking, if Manalo ends up winning 2nd in this tournament as well, he'll still be way behind Hohmann on the money list ($249k to $357k), even though Thorsten got last place in this tournament. Puts into perspective the very top-heavy prize distributions.

IPT prize money distribution is stupid. Awefully top heavy.

Ideally, 2-6th should make more than they do, then 7-18th a bit more. Rest doesn't matter.

However, the goal of the IPT is not about fair payouts. It is about dishing out huge money to #1 for publicity. 1st place gets all the attention, so it is more useful to make 1st as huge as possible.

Man, that's too bad about thorsten. on the other hand, he's still way ahead of everybody in the money list so i don't think he's too down about it...
except, should marlon, ralf or efren end up winning then they'll be the ones waay ahead....

Note he didn't actually say "consecutive", so he could mean running 5 racks at any time. Don't nit-pick and expect not to get it back. :p

..but Hohmann was a large shock, he didn't just lose his matches, he lost them comfortably, it was also a surprise that LJJ could break and run so much.

I think you judt don't realize how good some of these women really are...LJJ, I am sure has run over 100 balls in straight pool on many occasions. When she played in the KOH against Mike, she had been off the pro tour for some time and I am sure out of practice.
She is still pretty young, even though she has been around a long time, since she was a teens when she first hit the pro tour. I think she is in her early 40's. I would guess she has been practicing a lot more since this all started.

FYI: Kelly Fisher had a total of 9 b&r yesterday, more than anyone else in her group.

Anybody that would win this tournament would be way ahead! You don't even need Marlon, Ralf, or Efren to win it! The winner will be at least 145 Gs
ahead of Hohmann!
:D

Hohmann's early exit was certainly a shock to me, the LJJ match certainly had to take the wind out his sails a bit, but Hohmann is the type of player that usually will put that kind of thing behind him and rebound. Who knows, it might just have been one of those days for him.

I think you mis-interpret what i said. I realise there are a few women who can give any man a game, such as A.Fisher, Corr, Ouschan. I reckon the big disadvantage for these women is the break. The break alone, not skill, is why i find it surprising that LJJ for example managed to run 5 racks, the NA open showed this. Take the break factor away and i can see some of these women reaching the 4th, or even 5th round easily. All you need to do is look at Ouschan's high finish at the 14.1 champs (you mentioned 14.1).

Judging by the press comments, more balls are going in off breaks in this World open, which allows these women to show what they really can do... Be under no doubt that i don't question some of these ladies abilities.

Thanks for clarifying...LLJ talked about working hard to improve her break and too me break is more about stroke then power...look at Varner.

Same cloth?

Don't I remember the exact same cloth being used in this tournament as the last, at least on the rails? The tables could be playing a little differently or the ladies have found a comparatively soft break that works.

Either one seems good to me. I thought the slow cloth would be phased out if the tour lasted another year or two, I'm betting the new ownership will phase it out sooner than later.
