thoughts on Gandy tables needed

Take a pass....there are much better tables out there.
I have bought and sold a few of them.....glad to get rid of them.

It actually depends on the era of the Gandy table. If it was made in the 70s, with the ball returns that returned the ball to the center of the table, then down to the ball pocket, I would jump on it, with a good installer.

If, on the other hand, it was made in the 80s, it more than likely has the usual loud rail returns down the length of the long rails. Better tables are available than those.

I still miss those old Gandys with the quiet ball returns.

All the best,
WW

Is your brother a serious pool player or someone looking for basement furniture that might be used occasionally at parties?

I played on Gandy Big G's during the 80s and 90s. I owned a Gandy for about 10 years. Older tables can be good. But as you see, they are a riskier recommendation. Black Big G's in good condition are nice looking.

$1,000 pick it up....worth about seven Gandys for less money....
...and it's not that far away.

I have a Gandy 'sportsman' and have enjoyed playing on it for close to 30 years!

There is no such thing as perfect... and I would say an old gold crown has the edge
If in good condition, or a new diamond... but I have been very happy with mine and'
I'm pretty choosy about my things.

If you're a tournament player, i would always default to what you are competing on
On a regular basis... regardless of brand. JMHO

That is a Gandy Big G.... I played on one in college,,, it is a nice table. I love the way the ball return sounds.

A poolroom in Fort Walton, Fla. used to have 9' Gandy tables and they played perfectly. They
also were used for at a couple years at the famous Johnston City Tournament in 60's. I played on
Hubert Coke's Gandy that was in the basement of his home, quietest ball return I'd ever experienced.

The Gandy's I play on in AZ are ok not great. two things I don't care for are the table height, a bit low and the rails curve so that you lose sight of the diamonds. But then again I can be pretty picky.

I've played on plenty of Gandy tables vintage 1988 and newer.

Do yourself a favor and take a pass.

That GC for sale is a much better table and a far better bargain.

If you can't hook that deal up, talk to Diamond Billiards. -Z-

The older Big G tables that I've played are the fastest tables I've ever encountered, too fast imo. The rails are ridiculous, springier than artmemis cushions, idk why, they're just weird

I had a Gandy Big G in the mid 80s that I am pretty sure, was from the 70s.
It was well built , looked nice , and played ok for someone who didn't know any better .
It is not a Gold Crown and never will be.
