Thoughts on Kumui SS please

I have had now Black SS for a while on my 314-2 and it is ok....but somehow it still feels harder than the Sniper I have played many years with....actually happen to have two 314-2 shafts at the moment and one is with Sniper and the other one with Black SS.....play with the Sniper all the time...just feels better to me.
Both give me tons of effect, but the sound from SS is harder than the sniper and it is messing with my head! :)

I have the same shafts and have a Kamui ss black and to me it feels a little softer than the Snipers I used to play with. Lol

There has been a lot of discussion here on soft vs hard tips as far as performance and it has always been a mixed bag of opinions. I personally don't think there is enough of a performance difference to choose something that doesn't feel the most comfortable.

that would be something I agree with. I think Sniper and SS are not worlds apart from each other, but I do feel more comfortable with Sniper...so I stick with it.

My first Kamui tip was a Brown SS. I was pretty much disappointed in it.
It continually flattened out and mushroomed after a few games. It was spent in a month. I then tried a MS. It was much better but it too would flatten and mushroom frequently. Since then I have switched cues but by the looks of it, wasn't expecting much life expectancy from that one either. I get more spin from my Duds so the English or spin I got from the Kamuis wasn't anything that blew my hair (if I had any) back.

I switched to a blk SS from a MD hardness tip on recommendation and immediately went to NOT being able to draw a ball to save my life. It lasted 2 weeks before I cut it off and went to a brown Soft. So far not too bad but I should have went with gut instinct and stuck with a MD hardness tip as this is what I was used to playing with. Live and learn.

The SS is way too soft in my opinion. I put on a Kamui hard to try it out (hardest tip I've used), and I absolutely love it. Now, I can't imagine going back to anything softer than a Kamui medium.

I use black SS's on 2nd generation 314's. I like medium hardness, so I cut the SS down to about it's last 3-4 layers after shaping and it plays exactly the way I like them. I have done the same with the brown S, but the black SS works for me. I don't like any of my tips as stacked as most layer tips come.

Elasticity? Nope, not for me.

I've played both the S and SS. I prefer the S. The SS does grab and cue ball better and you can spin the ball easier, but rarely do you need to use such extreme English. I find harder tips to be easier to control unwanted spins but it definitely requires a better stroke (which I don't have so I miscue a lot! :P). That's just my personal preference though.

I went from the SS to the soft brown. Actually they were on two identical LD shafts. After I got used to the SS it became too soft for my taste and I found I shot better with the S. It was feeling spongy. I would not go back to the SS although I would go to a black again.

Black to brown

So whats the difference in the brown SS and the black?

I went from a black soft to a brown soft because the guy didn't have a black. Guy said they would play the same. Not so. Brown plays about like a triangle. No comparison. I loved the black soft.
