Thoughts on Lucasi Hybrid and other mid range cues?

I am in the process of getting my home room some nicer cues for my friends and family to play with and Lucasi cues caught my eye. LHF10 seems like a pretty cue that would look nice in the rack and maybe I would play an occasional rack with it myself.

How do you feel about them? I would appreciate if someone who hs owned one could compare the Lucasi Hybrid series to Predators and maybe Players HXT serie? They a offer a quite good warranty on warping and defects so I thought to make a thread and see how actual players like them :smile:

And yes I am a bit crazy for having wall cues this caliber :grin: Currently there are the following cues to choose from on my wall: Predator Ice, HXT, Schön and a Valhalla by Viking that really has to make way for a real cue. Most people can find something they like but there will be a vacant slot on my wall bracket when the Valhalla gets the axe that needs to be filled :wink:

Feel free to post anything, good or bad or even suggest other brands worth a look into :smile: Things have been a little rough financially lately so lets keep the budget under 500$ :smile:
 
I have a Hybrid and I love it. My cue was recently stolen. I had it since like 2005. I ended up buying a new Lucasi Hybrid Model LHL20. I love it. I do use a OB shaft in place of the Lucasi Slim Shaft. But I think they are great cues and hold up well.
 
Especially if you don't care about fancy looks, Lucasi is tremendous value. The hybrid shafts are certainly not inferior to the 'big names' in terms of performance and their slim shaft is actually playable for someone who isn't painfully technical in their stroke. Even if those shafts aren't for you, you can buy just about any aftermarket shaft you want with the money you save over other top tier cues. I've bought three Lucasi cues and although I've always ended up adding a different shaft (I prefer a shaft even thinner than their slim) I'd buy Lucasi again in an instant.

The rubber grip is also a game changer, allowing you to stay super loose without sacrificing any control of the cue, and I say that as someone who reluctantly switched from vintage wrapless cues. My prized cues are my custom order very traditional hand-made-in-the-UK snooker cue and my plain matte black Lucasi production cue, one of their cheapest. That should tell you something.
 
I have a Lucasi Hybrid and I like it very much. It's my go-to, daily cue. It was the 1st low deflection shaft I had played with at the time and for me, it definitely involved a learning curve, which was absolutely worth it. My game was also rusty as I hadn't played in a while so there's that as well.

My Lucasi (see my signature for the model #) hits as well as any stick I've played with. The value of a Lucasi Hybrid for me is that it plays great, has a reasonable price, and I've little to no worries wrt threat or loss or warpage. I like that's it's a Hybrid and I don't have to worry about it living in the back of my truck (in a very nice case). The rest of my cues are of a value that'd I never enter a Pool room alone with them (as I'm not fond of taking them to the restroom with me).

Another plus is that conventional wisdom holds that you're getting Predator quality at a significant discount. I've played with a Cuetec and believe me there's absolutely no mistaken one for the other...the Lucasi being vastly superior.

The Lucasi isn't the end all, be all of cues, but it's an awful lot of cue for the money. It's great for beginners and more than adequate for any shortstop and/or B player.

I have never played with a Lucasi but you have an HXT on the rack. I have suggested these cues for a few beginners and find little fault with them, especially for the price. for a little extra $$$ you can get a very nice looking cue as well.

Thank you all for your responses! I will make a pick between a Lucasi, Joss or a HXT when I am able to spend some on a cue. Right now I'm starting to feel a little worried about work related issues. Fingers crossed things will work out for me soon :frown:
 
I play with a lucasi hybrid and it's probably overkill for your non-pool friends and family. A set of them would look nice in your room though!
 
Having worked for Cue & Case, who make Lucasi/Players/Rage cues, I can tell you that there isn't much difference between the 2 shafts and that the HXT shaft is a very good deal for the price. Yes they produce more deflection than other shafts on the market but they might also hit better, which I think has more to do with the wood characteristics > construction.

I was told Lucasi, Predator and Poison are made in the same factory. So, weight bolts and threads should be compatible. If cues were cars, its like deciding which GM brand to choose, Chevy, Cadillac or Oldsmobile.

They're made in the same factory. Taican. They are not made to the same specs. Predator cues use a different weighting system than Lucasi. From what I understand, the Poison and Predator lines accept the same parts. But you can't stick a Lucasi weight bolt into a Predator cue. Predator and Poison seem to use an imperial thread weight screw. Lucasi/Players/PureX use a metric weight bolt.

Thanks for the clarification, I thought all cue brands coming out from that factory were compatible. Wasn't aware Players & PureX were also made there. Maybe the OP can look at Players/PureX in addition to Lucasi.

I do not know about the cues (I think they look very nice though), but I recently had a Lucas hybrid shaft (not the slim version), and I loved it. It was the best hitting shaft that I have ever used. The only other shaft that I would compare it to is the pre cat 314, and those are super rare and very costly on the used market. I would highly recommend you get a lucasi hybrid. They are great shafts, and very nice looking cues. I would not want to pay the very high retail prices for them though, even though I imagine they are worth the money.

I really want to try out the hybrid slim shaft. I had the other version, with the much stiffer taper on it, but I really loved it surprisingly. Amazing hitting shaft in my opinion. It blows away all of the other shafts on the market. All except for the pre cat 314, but those are no longer made, and I still think I prefer the lucasi hybrid.
