Thoughts On Valley Forge?

I couldn`t make it to Valley Forge this year, the second time in its history I have missed. I would be interested in your thoughts on how it went. Was attendance good? Tourney results, other action? Were cues abundant? Were they selling, and if so, were prices down? How were the new cases that were to be there by GTF, Its George, etc? Thanks!

Will :o :o  :( :p

Hi Will! I missed seeing you at the show, I was looking forward to talking cues with you. Hopefully I can make it to KC in Oct...I am planning on it.

From my viewpoint, attendance seemed to be good. We had a lot of foot traffic but not a lot of buyers. We had as many, if not more, people looking to sell their cue(s) than buy a new one. However, the week before the show I had my best sales week ever...go Figure! I said this last year, if someone had a booth solely for buying cues, they would come away with many very nice cues at $.40-$.60 on the dollar.

There seemed to be a lot of people looking for Szams. I do not know of one dealer or cue maker who had a better show this year than last year...maybe High End Cues...they seemed to have a good show. Maybe one of the Kens could chime in.

I did not get to see much tourney action.

Never had the pleasure of meeting you but hopefully the future will allow that. Heard so many good things about you from Both Bill Schick and Jimmy K. I was with Jimmy for two days helping when they needed help in the gallery of cues at the Cornerstone booth. There were a lot of people walking by so there was a ton of foot traffic, lots of fingers walking across the cues (so many fingers smears to clean up), many faces were recognized while some needed introductions, and the overall attendance was much improved over the attendance of 2007 (the winter storm made for a bad show last year).

Cue inventories were varied. Some good selections of the production cues, good selections of low end cues and mid range cues. The more sought after cues were more difficult to find that were truly priced to move. There were not many Hercek's (think only was really for sale), no Searing's to be found (all stashed away in their safes), Haley's were go quickly, and the Szamboti's were being chased as previously mentioned. There were a few Szam's that moved and hopefully Jimmy will be telling you about the two he picked up. He was just glowing with delight over the acquisitions of each. One Szam that lit up my eyes made it around the floor and within an hour was tucked away safely. This one truly was a beauty.

From my observations, the number of booths has decreased since my first visit in 2004 but now there appears to be more tournament 7 foot tables. I did hear mixed results for those who were there with a booth. Hopefully the event was good enough for all to return. I know I will be returning and this time I hope to be better prepared to make more moves.

Hope to meet you at some point.
Myron

A Good Show

Hi Will

You were missed. This event was strong...plenty of traffic and many superb cues on display. High End Cues, On The Hill, Cornerstone, Cueaddicts, Sureman and Joe Salazar all offered up some powerful cues and brought with them many new offerings.

By my assessment, the Cantandos drew the most attention. Art delivered two strong gambler cues that were highlights for me. Both sold almost immediately. Bill Stroud had several explosively ornate cues of ebony and ivory. Lastly, a powerful display of Black Boar cues was offered and was amaising. That group alone was worth the trip for me.

Don Sherman had an old Dave Kersenbrock with a case purported to have been made by hand by Jerry Franklin. I was sorely tempted but bought a newer Ed Young Kersenbrock instead.

Schick, Bender, Hercek, Scianella, Searing, Barry and Art were all there in addition to the list of displaying ACA members.

See you in Oct.

I missed the Searing cue at CueAddicts - never saw it.
But I did see the pair that Dennis had. What gems! My number is coming up and I will be looking forward to having mine built.

Will,
Missed you this year. For us the show smoked.. lotta stuff. Nice cues coming out of the woodwork, a lot to do with the recession I am guessing. (Had my new Fanelli for sale :D ) Great meeting every one. I love the show, it's really my yearly vacation from the stresses of life.

Picked up a new cuemakers very FIRST cue, that will be in the gallery.

VF BABY!!!

Had a blast all the way through. Burnt myself out with all the running round and dealing. Just too many great people to mention so I will not even try. Thank you all for making me and Sanjay so welcome. It was my first time here and I went a little crazy to say the least but I am told everyone does that.

More to post later but just too tired now.

Good Show

Well I had a great experience.

Who I met?
Saw the other Sanjay aka "Sanj" from the AZB as well as Jimmy, Cosmo, and a few other guys from the site. Also met James White who seemed like a real cool cuemaker and was very humble and easy to talk to.

What I bought? A Bushka Tribute Cue made by Bill Schick - Thanks Bill from Cornerstone. Showed the cue to Bill and he was very pleased with its condition and even recalled making it. It is a great addition to my other "BS" cues.

I have to get my hand on a pic of all the famous cue makers in one pic. If someone has a pic please send me a PM so I can send you my address.

Highlights, talking with Dennis Searing about my cue that should be underway shortly and talking to Pete and Pete Jr. Tascarella about my cues and collection.

I was only there a day and was under the weather, but glad I made it out.

Can't wait to see new pics of what was picked up at the show.
