Okay, I thought about this quite a bit and frankly, I've really gone out of my way to avoid having this turn into a fight. The truth is, there are quite a few people who don't like the way it is and there are quite a few people that do. I don't think it's terribly difficult to take steps to make everyone a little happier.

I think it's time we give a look to the way the forums are organized and consider creating a few and eliminating others. The goal would be to encourage users to use the Main Category Page more -

This is my proposal though feel free to make suggestions:

The Rail - (originally Main Forum) Non-specific Pool Talk
Shooting Gallery - Diagram shots for analysis (NEW)
Improve Your Game - Give/Receive advice on mechanics and mental aspects of pool (NEW)
Straight Pool
Snooker
Carom Billiards
NPR
vBookie Events

Tournament Announcements
Tournament Updates
(get rid of individual tournaments and let threads do the work)

Cues & Equipment
Wanted/For Sale
Cue Machinery
Cue Gallery
Ask The Cuemaker

Archived Forums (everything that's basically redundant or out of date). Get rid of the Pros section. The rooms are often rarely used and you can't have a room for everyone. Besides, if these pros want to contribute, they should just jump into the sections and contribute which is what many of the bigger contributors do already.

Your suggestion has merit, however, I don't think seperate forums for straight pool, snooker and carom are required. They have averaged less than a post per day lately.

Where's My WebTv ?

To change your active X controls so you won't get those annoying pop-ups:
Go To:
Control Panel
Internet Options
Security
Custom Level
Go down to ActiveX control options and select to run activeX without prompting. Here how it should look. Good luck!
Ray

Grrrrrr !
I found Control Panel and followed your steps and checked back into an Active X thread here and still got the popups. I shut down and re-started the computer to see if it had to be applied on the next time online and I STILL get the popups.
I had so many 'other' damned choices for Active X, such as:
Download signed Active X controls
prompt (recommended)
Download UNsigned Active X controls
disabled (recommended)
Initialize & Script Active X marked as Safe
disabled
Initialize & Script Active X marked as UNsafe
disabled

etc., etc., etc., ad nauseum..

I'm hopeless and don't want to hijack Jude's excellent thread with instructions that everyone else here understands, except ME... :)
Doug
( thanks for trying )

Edited to add: this may be a blessing in disguise. If some people think I'm aggravating NOW, what would life on AZB be like if I actually learned how to Diagram stuff and post PICTURES..... Oy-Vey !

Smorgass, I also have all 4 of Bigtruck's flags set and am still getting the popups, and I also re-booted. You're not alone.
Bigtruck...I really appreciate the effort, but so far we're not there yet. I think Smogass might be right...there are a gazillion other ActiveX options.

I disagree. The straight pool forum has always provided a wealth of information on a daily basis. The low post counts on these forums are due to the fact that the 85% bull$hit has been removed/ not present. The straight pool section has had some slow days, but I think that it is probably the forum that provides the most knowledge per thread. I would be also be in favor of a one pocket forum. IMO, there are several of the "pro" forum sections that serve absolutely no purpose at all and that space could be better used for something else.

I think the participation in the straight pool, snooker and carom forums will soar when people realize that I've never even VISITED any of those forums (and don't intend to).
It's like the signs along the highway that read "No Smorg Zone Ahead"..

I'm not sure the best way to respond to your comment about the straight pool forum..

I'm torn between "RIGHT ON BLACKJACK!"

and , quietly...

"shhh."

Well, I'm slightly torn. There's a part of me that would love to see forums for each game and a part of me that would like to see them all grouped together. No matter what, I think both would serve the same function - it would get those that wish to discuss pool strategy out of the main forum.

You'll have to pry our 14.1 forum from out of our cold, dead hands.

All kidding aside, I think everyone reading this thread understands what you are saying Jude, but the simple fact is, things are the way they are.
People will bring up topics repeatedly, and some people are here to joke around. Much like everything else on the WEB, you MUST take the good with the bad.
Even if you change the Forum titles, you still wont get rid of the posts.
I commend you for making a stand and trying to change things, hopefully
people have taken notice.

lol, understood. Well, I think if there were forums for each game, there would be users like myself just bouncing around those forums..

Read Jude's proposed forum's.

The special interest factions (to include 1P) can be accomodated by the "improve your game" and "shooting gallery" forums.

Agreed with regards to the "pro" forums.

BTW, agreeing to disagree is fine to.
