I dabble a bit in billiards and came across shot number 3 in a book, but I could never get it to work properly. The shot either didn't get enough action and reversed, or I sometimes got too much action and hit the second ball after 1 rail. The few times I actually made the shot didn't seem to have any similarities to speak of, different speed, different english and not consistent. Whenver I tried something that seemed to work, I could never quite repeat it the same way. It would be off in some way I couldn't exactly understand. Too bad I'm not playing so much anymore, as I'd try your way to see if I could do better with it.

I don't really think I have the best aptitude for billiards. I have decent control of the cueball in pool, but the accuracy just isn't there for billiards. A guy told me I should shorten my bridge and change my stance a bit, which probably were good ideas, but doing that messed my pool and snooker up. Also I struggle with smoothness on medium power shots with a shorter bridge. A lot of the older guys around my area who played billiards would sort of punch a lot of their shots, and I was worried I'd start doing that too as I'd rely very heavily on stroking smoothly to have success in pool and snooker. Oh well.
