Hi Bob! It was nice to meet you at the tournament.
I don't think VIP is worth it at all. All viewing is very good, and early in the tournament, the place just isn't filled enough to make VIP an issue. Many people would sit in the VIP sections because there just weren't enough VIP people to fill it. In fact, the VIP folks didn't even fill those seats 1/2 way. In the first couple of days I'd sit in the VIP section even though I had a General Admission ticket because the section was mostly empty and there was zero chance of me taking up someone's seat. I'd often be watching another match elsewhere and when it would finish, I'd walk over to the VIP area and watch the end of the other matches. By that time, if the seating is half empty or less I'll sit down and no one really cares.
Later on, there were more VIP's and they took up most of the VIP seating. I found that players (who do not have VIP access with their player ID) were sitting in the VIP sections as well as many folks with general admission even when there were enough VIP ticket holders present to fill the VIP seating. They didn't do any real enforcement of it except for maybe a few of the TV table matches. I don't think that was cool. The IPT is hurting themselves by letting that happen because I'm 100% sure someone who bought a VIP pass took notice of this and didn't appreciate it. They aren't likely to buy another VIP pass again. If that seating was full or looked like it would be full - I didn't bother sitting there as someone else paid $100 to sit there.
My brain was about to melt from the massive number of matches I got to see all over the tournament floor everyday I was there. There were excellent matches all the way in the corner where there was only general admission seating - 2 rows of chairs only. Didn't matter where you were - there was great pool to watch everywhere. Good view everywhere, good matches everywhere.
I don't think any of the events, except maybe the one in Illinois (or London) will be packed. How many local pool fans are there in Reno and Las Vegas? How many of them will take the time off and go to the tournament? You're not going to find a lot of people (except die hards and those involved in the industry) who are going to fly out to see it or travel. If the IPT comes closer to where most people live, rather than where most people vacation - I can imagine the place would get really busy. THe tournament in Illinois should attract a lot more pool fans due to where they live.
