"Tiger Design" Saber-T Ferrule Question

Seems there are agents for Muellers crawling all over this forum.

To answer your question, it is a replacement for their "X" shaft but it can also be installed on most shafts by any qualified repairman.

I use Saber T on most all the new cues I make. I would warn you though not to have a ferrule tenon going into your shaft. Mr. Reyes extensive testing shows it makes it more prone to split the shaftwood.

I clicked on the link and thought, What a quick way to crack a shaft! it just does not make sense to me to thin out the already thin end of a shaft even more.
then I read you'r post. and am a tad confused, do you use them as they are shown? or remove the tennon part first? or did I just not understand something.

If those ferrules cracked shafts like some here would have you believe, you would see a lot of The X shafts from Tiger blowing up. As far as I know it's not a problem. I've made lots of shafts with the tenon on the ferrule, even as small as 10mm. I've never seen one fail.

I have to agree. There's been 1,000's upon 1,000's of Predator shafts made plus some other low deflection shafts and I don't believe it to be much of a problem with them. I'm sure that it's probably not as strong as a tenon into a ferrule and may be a problem once in a great while but then again shafts cracking or ferrules or even butts cracking happen once in a while but not often enough to cause a large enough concern as to change their design.

I don't like em that way either.
I'd rather have a wooden tenon. It's stronger imo plus easier to replace.

Saber T is the material....Tiger has there own ferrule design with the tenon. When I purchase Saber T it comes in a solid rod form & I make my own ferrules the traditional style...I would never make a ferrule with a tenon of ferrule material going into the shaft. If I needed a tenon then I'd make it out of maple then install a ferrule as normal. Mr. Reyes is a well respected cuemaker and has done extensive testing. PM him or search if you'd like more info. His testing showed the shafts were much more subject to split/crack with the ferrule tenon going into the wood. Tiger gets by with this but remember...their shaft is 4 pieces around a solid box core. Every cuemaker is free to build them how ever they please...I just choose what I believe is the most durable method.:)
