Tiger/PP 9-Ball Tour in Sterling, VA Update

Timberly,

I live in Latrobe, about 1/2 hour from Indiana, PA, and I found out about it Sunday night. I thought that the guy running it posts on here occasionally, but I haven't been able to find any mention of it in this forum.

Just curious, do you think alot of the top players would show up for it if they knew about it? It sounded like there was enough $ added to get at least some top players to show up.

Hey Nick!

I know what you mean about the longer waits at Sterling. It just so happens that I picked Sterling to try my first PP event last year and I think the field was around 98. Unfortunately for me, I got smoked by a good player in the first round, waited about 4 hours, then got smoked 7-0 by Greg S.

I would agree that a 64 man field would fit in there very nicely. The room is nice and if I can manage, I'm going to try to get down there for one of the upcoming events. I'm very interested in playing an 8 ball event and the 25-26th might work out for me. Hope to see everyone there!!

Skess,

As JAM said, we got in excess of 90 players there once or twice, and having that many players try and finish in two days on 11 tables is an astranomical task. The last time we had that many, players had to wait up to 4 and 5 hours between matches on day one, and that is with a race-to-seven format in both brackets. Plus, there is not enough seating space to accommodate that many people. A few players personally told me that they prefer not to play there because of that reason after the last big one we had there. So, I guess a big chunk of our regulars avoided it because of that, which then ironically resulted in a small turnout without any of the aformentioned problems. And then it was also a nice weekend for being outside, so that may have kept one or two away. We still had a good tournament, though. It really is a great room for spectators. Perfect for a 64-player field! Maybe next time. We're back there Aug 13-14 for 9-Ball, and we have an amateur 8-Ball tourney there Jun 25-26, which gets about the same number as we had this past weekend.

Absolutely.... it's a few hours drive but there's a few around here that have a chance at finishing in the money & with that much added, I'm sure they would make the drive.

I was kind of surprised that I didn't see Shawn there. There were other people from Ohio there. I don't remember there names though.

CaptainJR, not very many people I know saw this tournament announcement or knew it was happening.

I guess it begs the question, though. Do you have to be a Pennsylvania State resident to qualify for this tournament, or could anybody have gotten in?

Oh, and how many players did show up?

There were people there from all over, Florida, Ohio, New York, so I'm sure you didn't have to be a resident. 56 players were in the tournament. I got a flyer in the mail. I don't know how they got my name. With that kind of money added I was expecting to see a lot more people there. I think it is only a couple year old tournament so I'm sure it is still growing.
