Tiger's clutch puts, pool equivalent??

what do you guys think the equivalent is in pool of some of these 15-20 footers he makes to win or tie tournamnets under the gun? I am truly starting to be amazed. Maybe like a long rail bank when you're fairly far from the object ball? It's just astonishing the percentage he nails under the gun.

I would say a break and run to win a hill-hill match. Tiger really is incredible, I wonder if he plays pool?

First shot (tough shot) after the break with an open table. You know if you miss you probably lose.

The thing is though, in pool you are playing an opponent. In golf you are playing the course and there is no defensive play. In pool you are not forced to shoot but can play a defensive shot. I guess a great defensive shot may be the equivalent of a clutch shot. It can be a game winner from what was oblivion.

I wanna know the equivalent of a professional golfer who after playing great golf all week, all of a sudden on a Sunday (final round) can't shoot even par (because Tiger's name is behind his on the leaderboard)?? Sure, Tiger is a GREAT clutch putter, but a lot of those putts would mean ZIP, NADA, NOTHING, if the field wouldn't succumb to the pressure of Tiger 2-6 strokes behind starting the final round....

sorry, had to semi-rant.

It'd be like being up 8-2 in a pool tourney (going to 9) with alternate breaks and each time you get to the table with an open runout, you just shoot a ball into the rail....and I mean professionls...best of the best (supposedly), not weekend hackers that can't break 100, or in pool terms; bangers that can't pocket 2 balls in a row. I understand someone being in your head, but someone being in EVERY pros head?? WOW!!

The boring answer: what makes the putt tough is it's long by the standards of the game. So the equivalent is a long tough shot to win (or start the run that wins) a rack in 9b/10b.

I don't think it's like breaking and running because all breaks have en element of luck and what tiger does seemingly has no luck. I don't see it as being like like a bank or Z-kick because it's not a trick shot or weird way to 'get out'. Putts are a very normal shot made difficult when there's long distance and intense pressure. It's a razor thin rail cut or a long straight shot where the CB is in the jaws of one corner and you're firing at a shot that's 3 or 4 feet from the opposite corner. You want to make the shot, and maybe some people believe you're a favorite to make the shot, but nobody is SURE to make these shots every time.

IMO, none. Until there are millions on the line with one shot in pool I don't see it being equal. Talk about nerves of steel vs. the ultimate ass pucker.
It may have been an easy putt by pro standard but I wonder how many think it's that easy with all that riding on it?

Golf is Hard

If Michael Jordan is the best in basketball. Then Tiger Woods is ten times better then everyone in Golf. Everyone else is playing for 2nd. The amount of focus that he has is crazy. I think a sick masse shot would be the same as a great putt.

I would have to agree, as the question was looking for a equivalent to pool. Different shots equal different expectations for different players, but I just don't feel the same pressure to kick a ball in as I do to make a long straight in shot.

A putt to me is best translated to a long simple shot where you really have to trust your technique.

Tiger doesn't care if that tourney paid him 1 million or 20 bucks to win....the pressure he feels is put on himself. He's not chasing dough, he's chasing history. He wants to win regardless of what it pays. If you were to ask him if he'd rather win 10 more majors at 2 million a piece, or 20 more at a thousand dollars a piece; he'll take the 20. I realize he already has a GAZILLION dollars, but that man is DRIVEN to be the best there ever was. He wants EVERY record (most wins, most majors, largest margin of victory, etc. etc. etc.), and he'd do anything to get there (even if it meant forgoing the cash). That all said, the money is a nice little bonus on the way to the history books, LOL :joyful:

It's like Sean O'Hair was playing Tiger a 10 ahead set and on Saturday he went to sleep 9 ahead. Next day Tiger gets the table and puts a quick 7 on him. Then a 5 pack. Birdy on the last hole is good for a final 7.

When Tiger's rolling, no one else is really at the table, are they?

One shot comes to mind. Souquet's shot on the 5 ball in the semifinals of the 2006 WPC. The epitome of execution under pressure.

Efren's Z kick shot ...

that's what i was going to say, except for that shot is not really repeatable under pressure... that was more of a one time amazing feat. Tiger Woods consistently hits 15-20 putts under extreme pressure at the most critical moments.

I'm not sure there is an equivalent to what Tiger does with his putting because when a top player is dominating he's not consistently hitting tough shots, he is making perfect shape so he doesn't have to hit tough shots. Perhaps hitting long distance shots with the cue ball sitting dead on the rail... they are extremely difficult shots under pressure that demand precision and concentration that should be able to be made at a reasonable rate when not under pressure.

In my opinion, there is NO equivalent to Tiger Woods in any sport anywhere in the world... not even close. Tiger Woods is part cyborg, part alien, part deity and part asian.

There is NO equivalent in pool because after the clutch birdie and the fist pump, Tiger gets a million $, while Efren or Earl or Shane, after countless clutch shots in their careers, still get....what?
