How are and what is the preferred way to tighten pockets? Can't you just buy new longer rails? How are pockets shimmed and is this permanent? Can you also give common pocket sizes from large to small. Thanks

What kind of table? How much do you want the pockets tightened? Do you want it to be permanent?

Read RKC's little scolding of people that are not up to his speed on tables mechanics problems with customers. Hopefully he doesn't cop that attitude with real customers. His analogy of car mechanics was lame to me. If you told a mech my car goes click click but won't start he would tell you 1 bad battery, 2 starter sol. 3 bad starter. There are commonalities with autos and pool tables also. I know he's # 1 on AZ table guys but he does talk down to people. But I'm dealing with the Rev today and your not him. Two possible table choices for my pocket questions. 8 ft. GC 2 and 7 ft. Valley. I am aware of the Ridgeback rails but I don't think they make them diff sizes. Sorry to vent on RKC but I'm old and cantankerous! Don't know the year and model of the valley. Hope RKC not your best bud!

Its been posted many times before also, the best way is to extend the rails on the GC2 with wood so the angles can be corrected/changed. This can be a perminent solution, or be taken off down the line. The GC rail extensions will require new rubber and a few hours to make them perfect.

I think it also depends on how much you want to tighten the pockets up. Putting 1/4" 60 durometer neoprene facings will tighten up the pockets without subrail extensions ...

I got mine on amazon and cut them to fit. I used a pneumatic mini belt sander from harbor freight to shave em down .....and bam i have 4.5" pockets ....

That is true, but that does not give you a chance to correct the angles that are cut on the rails. I have never come across a Gold Crown that has consistent pocket angles and sizes.

Thanks Rev. Don't have a table yet, just trying to get my ducks in a row and do it right the first time. My brother who is not a serious player bought a new Brunswick table. I had him get big pockets so not so serious players would have more fun. Its such an easy table I don't like playing on it. Thanks again

You are right ... i guess it depends how close to exact he wants to get...if he's happy with the pocket consistency as it stands now; then the facings will work ....

if not then he has to open the can of worms as you suggest ....
