Tim Scruggs' shop in MD closed???

I was in Maryland Monday & Tuesday with my wife who was there on business. I was very excited to finally make my pilgrimage to what IMHO would be the Mecca shop of pool cue creators. My heart was pounding as my GPS indicating I was getting closer & closer to 900 Leeds.

When I got there it was obvious it was gone...even though the big sign was still there. The counter person at the now Boxing Gym at 900 Leeds said he had no idea what happened to Tim. I called a well known colleague of Tim's who acted very sketchy on the phone and was less than no help.

I have to say I'm quite bewildered as Tim's website is still up and his phone number, seemingly a cell phone now, is still active with a voice mail greeting that indicates Tim is operational and still in business. I've been mostly out of the pool scene although I was aware of Mike Cochran's passing.

I'm hoping Tim simply has moved, but I'd prefer not to speculate on a public forum. Can anyone shed some light on what's up? All PM's will be kept confidential if so requested. Thanx!

Tim retired almost 2 years ago now and has since sold off all of his equipment and the last of his cues. There was a rumor that he might come back but I'm pretty sure he won't. After the death of a friend and collegue, illness in the family and various other issues to include getting on in years, he decided to enjoy what was left and get out of the business.

I know a lot of us will miss his work!

I hope they went to good homes.
And that TS has a much more enjoyable life now.

Good for him. I'm fortunate enough to own one of his cues. A dear friend harassed the heck out of me to buy it when I was new to the game, had no idea who Tim was and $600.00 was all the money in the world to me. That was just about 20 years ago. I'm not a materialistic person, but my Scruggs cue is one of my most prized possessions.

It's good to know someone who brought so many so much happiness through his skill, art, craftsmanship, & hard work is taking some time to enjoy life. -Z-

How can this be explained???

Mike Corcoran's Passing

Tim and Mike were really close and Mike worked side by side with Tim making cues...he essentially was perfecting his cue making skills just like Tim did when He worked for Bill Strud and Dan Janes when they owned Joss cues. With Mike;'s passing, Tim lost his right hand and starting over with someone else, even though there are others that could step in like Bob Frey or Cory Barnhart, at Tim's age he just didn't want to do it.

He's still alive and kicking...heard something about him getting involved in the cue business as a consultant to the Asian cue market. I know he's worshipped in Japan for his craftsmanship and Tim isn't pressed for money. I suspect he's keeping his website active becasue it's cheap to maintain and it also keeps his name and reputation prominent. At the same time, he can always return to cuemaking on a custom basis if he ever gets the urge...but Scruggs cues for all intent and purpsoes are no longer being made...that includes any repairs or new shafts made by Scruggs....it's a big loss for the cue world....I'm going crazy trying to find a Scruggs Bushka Tribute cue...a one of a kind look.....and they just aren't for sale anywhere......Matt
