Tim Scrugs Sneaky Petes?

I have bought, sold and traded lots and lots of cues over the past couple years. I have had several of the Tim Scruggs sneaky pete's and have sold them for a good amount of money but I really dont understand why the market is the way it is for those cues. Is it because Tim no longer makes them? They do play great but sometimes you see them go for almost as much as his much fancier cues. I can see spending a couple hundred for one if yo uare going to play with it but six and seven hundred seems like a lot to me. I just want some opinions on this and it seems like these are the Szamboti's of the sneaky pete's. Also for those of you who have bought or are selling one of these cues, I am not knocking them by any means just curios is all. One more point, when this type of cue is selling in the $350 to $1000 range (which I have seen several) will it eventually effect the price of his nicer cues.

Tim, himself, made very few. Try on Bob Frey, he made most. House cue conversions with a nice shaft. Not rocket science. Bob still makes the identical hitting cue. For half.

Im not a sneaky pete fan, mostly because of the reason you state, for a hundred or two more I can get a 4 point, 4 veneer cue.

When they started and you could get them for $115, yes I remember paying $115 for TS sneakies, you could throw it in the car and not car if got dinged up playing in a bar ..... who cares?

I guess others can say they play better than anything in the world, but I would rather have a veneered cue for again about $400-$600.

Having $400-$600 in a sneaky pete is like putting a dress on a horse.

Most, if not all of the early TS sneakies were made in Jackson, TN. and TS was in Balto.

I had 2 TS sneakies. One of them had a 'dink' in the hit as one A player described it. I thought that would be bad but he said it was good. MY two cost me 115-140. Overnight they went to 180 and that was enough for me to be no longer a buyer. He has quite a following in the North East. AT one time maybe late 90's he had 30% of the players IMO. I moved to Florida for the winters in 2001 and it was like .001%. There were more "Frank Ball's" around than TS. WHo has heard of him?

I would never pay over $300.00 for a sneaky, I don't care whose name is on it, the last Scruggs sneaky I shot with was in Fredericksburg, VA and the price was $300.00, that was in the mid 90's.

My last TS sneaky also had a metallic or tink sound. I changed the ferrule and tip—it didn't help.

My problem with the Scruggs, and most sneakys made with a Valley or Dufferin butt, is that they're more butt-heavy than a house cue. Switching back and forth between an evenly-balanced "conventional" cue and a sneaky pete is tough for me.
