Why is that baby eating that giant scorpion? Is this a thinly veiled reference to Johnny Archer? Are you saying that baby could give Archer the 7-out and still eat him for lunch??

Nooooooo. It's a facehugger from "Alien"!

I found this pic the other day and had to use it. :D

Someone has probably already pointed this out, but "The Color of Money 2" would actually be "The Hustler 3", as The Color of Money was a sequel to The Hustler. :)

Isn't it time for a new movie in the Hustler saga.

This was just an afternoon discussion for all to ponder - nothing more.

I do think a new movie might help spark more interest in the game I love and help pool rooms around the country.

The great thing about the Hustler series of movies is they capture the era of pool and the feel very well.

I most definately think it would be a huge waste to do a redo of the Color of Money with Tom taking Paul's spot and some new kid taking his, originality is key.

Given the globalization of the game today, the dominance of Taiwan, the Phillipines, and Europe, and the dwindeling money and prestige of the sport here in America I would like to see the story focus on that abit.

Perhaps meet up with a Vincent, still playing the lights out and dominating his local scene and winning a few hundred dollars in a local tournament, after the event asking people to play for come cash, offering some spots, and having them baulk at the idea as they now know this old pro all too well. Show him then heading to his apartment, getting yelled at by his landlord, giving him the bulk of the winnings, and being told that he owes five times this amount and attempting to appease the landlord saying he will get the rest soon, knowing that it will be tough to find anywhere to manage that.

He flicks on his small screen TV with a crappy picture, flicks through a couple channels, one showing some huge basketball star in an interview flashing diamond rings and talking about his new Ferrari with some interviewer. He then flicks the channel and there on the TV is a match of pool, in Asia, showing the best they have to offer, a huge crowd of people watching their pool stars, and playing for a far larger payout then Vincent has seen in some time.

At that moment Vincent takes on the idea of going to where the money is. He spends some time trying to ask people to borrow some money and tells them what he is thinking, he hustles abit, but finds he is not getting enough money put together fast enough. Then word hits him that one of the top players from Asia is actually in the USA atm and is taking on all comers. He decides to take put his entire stake together and play him. He gets to the location the guy is playing out of and it is in an Asian district of a major city, most of the rail is Asians, and he feels out of place taking on their hero. He plays the guy, shoots very well, but the guy plays like a machine with no emotion, much like most Taiwanese players. While Vincent shoots well he is not battle hardened having just taken on local champs in recent years for small cash, and he falls well short against the top Asian pro, getting beat quite bad in straight sets.

The rail is happy to see their hero prevail. It all seems lost for Vince, but as he is packing up his old Balabushka, thinking about maybe selling it at this point, a rich looking Asian walks up to him and compliments him on a match well played. Vincent comments that it is not well enough. But the Asian sees a potential in Vincent and offers to take him on the road, not in the USA but in Asia. He tells him there is money in the game for a person like Vincent in Asia, many players that would have plenty of backing against an American trying to come over there and gamble in pool. As well the usefullness of having a Asian who knows the language, the places to play, the culture, the players, ect... would be crutial to success Vince is told.

So he goes to Asia, and he matches up, starting at the lower levels playing the weaker players at first but finding that the very different mindset they play the game with makes them quite difficult opponents. There is no sharking, no banter, they just sit there with no emotion when they are not shooting and when they shoot they do so like machines. Vince starts to learn to curb his emotion, starts to become more controlled at the table, and starts winning.

Anyhow, the movie goes on to eventually have Vince wanting to step out and play the best, the backer not wanting that and turning out to be quite connected and dangerous, the conflict between them on that issue (likely costing Vince most of his cut of the winnings and putting the pressure on him to succeed immediately on his own), have an Asian love interest who helps him break away from the backer, as Carmen is long gone years before the show starts.

Nice storyline, send it off to a few producers/studios and get the ball rolling!

The plot could develop like this.

After racking and breaking, racking and breaking, racking and breaking ..... etc, someone racking says ... "Hey, what the hell are these other 6 balls doing under the table? I didn't know there were more balls!"

Just then Fast Eddie gets rolled by the table on a stretcher by two Paramedics with an oxygen mask on his face. They pause breifly, Fast Eddie tilts the mask and says ..... "They used to use those balls in a real pool game called 14.1 straight pool, it was a very strategic, creative and deep game."

Then he replaces the mask and they continue to wheel him out to the ambulance.

Back in the pool room one guy says what did that mean? The other guy say I think stratego is a board game ... and then they rack up the 9 balls again and break ... rack and break ... rack and break ... :(
