time to get my game back... (AND THEN SOME)

Haven't been playing the greatest lately... probably because i haven't played more than a night a week in about 4 months and not much more than that for the 6 before that... been having to play "smarter" just to be competitive with guys i used to beat easily. Sick of losing... lol. that's all changing starting tonite. I'm finally at a place in my life where i can put the hours and hours of table time in to see just how good i can be. I'm excited, but kind of nervous as well... i might not like what i find out lol. I'm currently rated an 8 in our bca format 8 ball league and a 7 in our apa 9 ball league. my goal is to become a 9 in both and to start cashing in larger tourneys and basically get as good as i possibly can. any advice for an aspiring "player"?

Find you a good sparring partner. Someone that you rarely beat and someone that is capable of running out often. Watch and learn.

I agree that finding a sporty player to spar with helps a lot and would be a one way to improve your game but if you want to be the best you can be the quickest possible way would to obtain playing lessons. Send me a pm if you are interested in gathering additional information.:)

I would think playing every week in a 38 week league would give a pretty good average... been playing in that league for 5years. is actually what got me in to pool. first year i was a 6.. next year i was a 7. 3rd year went to an 8... been one ever since. used to play 3 or 4 nights a week. and actually its 2 a week... 8 ball AND 9 ball league...

First thing you need to do if you're serious about getting better is stop focusing on how often you play and start focusing on how often you practice.

Thanks for all the replies so far. i sent u a pm bossman. tonight i played about 2 hours some drills for almost 2 hours... first step in the right direction of a long road.:)

Practice is great. Developing a consistent, repeatable, reliable and productive stroke is the key to advancing your game to the next level. We all intend to improve our game. Time, dedication, location and opportunity directly affect our progress.

Maybe you're not doing enough drills. You have to do drills. Especially if you ever want to beat the Europeans. That's according to another thread that that's going around. If you aren't doing drills you're screwed.
I'm at least a low A player. The next time someone comes up to me and asks if I want to play some One Pocket I'm going to ask them if they do drills. If they say yes, I'm going to ask for at least two and the break. That's according to the drill thread that's going around, anyway.

time to get my stroke back

I agree that the new fad seems to be all drills. I love to play. I think of pool like I approach golf. I can practice a lot on the range by myself to build the correct muscle memory. When I paid for a round of golf it cost me more and my score directly reflected how well I had practiced and prepared for the challenge. I try to apply the same principles to pool. Right or Wrong?? I hope everyone can find a good way to elevate their game.:)

Honestly, i hate drills as well... BUUUT, i HAVE already noticed an improvement in my position play so im just gonna keep on keeping on lol. I have also been working on fundamentals.
