Timmy Scruggs ..no more

As far as resale value I don't give a crap. The cues I had bought from Tim all have special meaning to me. Each has a story of happier times spent Saturdays in his shop, hanging out with Tim, Mike, Jeff, JP and other assorted characters,

In other words I won't be selling mine as long as I am alive.

your probobly correct...I think the prices are gonna be about the same for a while. But you have one and don't need to sell it I would hold on to it. I would think that when and if the economy ever gets going again that scruggs as most cues will see a nice jump.

It was not Bob Frey who made the TS Sneaky Pete's when Tim's shop was on Leed's Ave. Bob and Tim worked together for several years up on the hill at the butcher shop and Bob probably helped with sneaky petes then. (Georgetown Road? Can't remember.) The gentleman who made the sneakys, did so under Tim's direction and when he stopped working for Tim to have a regular job at UPS or the Post Office or something like that, sneaky pete production ceased. In the very late 70's and early 80's, Tim did make sneaky's himself. They actually helped him to stay in business for awhile, at least until his reputation grew.

I first met Tim on a Saturday afternoon at the Joss shop in March of 1975. He impressed me as being a good old boy. Graciously, he gave me a tour of the entire shop and I saw things I never imagined that went into cuemaking. Seeing whole ivory tusks laying on the floor was impressive to me, but I was only 22 at the time. I had him rewrap my Palmer while I was there. Watching him spin the linen on the butt was amazing. I actually went down the next week and ordered the first of several Joss cues. That first one had an ivory joint, the Joss box collars, rosewood with veneered points all for $160. When I picked up the cue I racked the balls on the old Brunswick there and ran 36 my first shot. I knew I had something special. Tim and I then played some 9-Ball and that was the beginning of a long relationship of playing together. Played him 16 hours straight in his shop once. He had antics I can't describe. I can only chuckle when I think of them.

Tim and Mike and Jeff and Bob and Eddie and the whole gang were great folks. It was always a fun, fun trip to the shop.

I will miss it.

Back in late July of 08 we took a family vacation too Washington D.C. I had a chance to get away spend a couple of hours at the shop on a early Saturday morning. Seeing all the sights of D.C. didnt compare to the time I spent there in that shop in other words it was the highlight of my vacation. I was planning on going back there this past summer and seeing Mike and maybe even meeting Tim for the first time, but I didnt happen. :(

Yeah, we were definitely a bunch of characters for sure. I will definitely miss seeing the guys this xmas and having G&M crabcakes!

Tony, i will be seeing them next week and will pass on the message.

I met Tim face to face when I dropped off the cue I had got from him a few months earlier for some work. Took us around the entire shop, just wouldn't let us take pictures of his equipment. Showed us the first cue I ever saw with the skull and crossbones in the butt sleeve. He'd just put it back together after the owner busted it across a table after missing a 9 ball. Tim made the cue, by the way. Great guy!!

Yeah, the Christmas parties were always fun. I always looked forward to it every year. It's a shame there won't be anymore but atleast we don't have to watch Vince play one pocket for hours on end. Timmy always treated all of us great.

That us why if I can get Tim out of his house I will be treating him to Crabcakes.

BTW when do you think you and RKC will be down my area for my table redo.
