TIP Assortment/Selection ?????

I have recently bought a Willard tipper machine and will be buying a small repair lathe when tax dollars come in. I am curious as to what brand tips all/most of the repair guys keep in stock and on hand. Of course I don't have the money to buy every single brand tip, soft, medium, hard, etc... to keep on hand but I do need to get a small stock going so I have tips on hand. What is the most common tip(s) to keep on hand and in stock ?? If someone comes up to one of you repair guys and asks to have a tip installed, what brand do you guys put on if he/she doesn't "specify" what brand/hardness ???

Also, what is the best glue to use for installing tips ??

I personally have bought the milkdud tips from pooldawg and have them on all my cues but I can't expect EVERY customer to want the same tip I use.

Thanks for any and all suggestions.

I remember a thread like this in the last few months.
Do a quick search and I'm sure it will come up.

Here is a list of must have and should have tips.

Must Have:
LePro
Triangle
Elk Master

Should have:
Moori
Kamui
Sniper
Everest
Mad Man Leather Jump Break tips.

Then there are a lot of others that would be nice to have,
But the above must and should have are ones I would not want to be without for regular repair work.

if type and hardness not specified - good Triangle.
Single layer tips: LePro and Triangle (for soft pick either Elk Master or Blue Knight or Blue Diamond)
Layered tips: Moori and Kamui (Black and Original), Aramith, Sniper is good according to many reviews here, though I don't have it in stock. Don't miss Black King tips, nice value and quality.
Break tips: MadMan for sure (he's got several types, layered and non-layered). Samsara.

I spent some time asking and checking what the local players use so for the most part, have based my stock accordingly.

Triangle
Le Pro
California - A nice layered tip that can be sold cheaper
Elk Master
Milk Duds - Can't go wrong with Dawg's Duds.

Moori
Talisman soft and medium
Everest
Wizard
Black King in all hardness ratings
Mad Man break tips
Super Pro
Adams Shooter - Which I have never tried or installed yet. Was an impulse buy on EBay many moons ago.
Probably a few others kicking around the tool box somewhere.

There are some die hards out there but I have got a few players to try Talisman, Wizard and Black King and all have been happy so far.

In addition to the above, Hercules and Porper Majestic are good tips for the money. Actually, it would be more accurate to say they are good tips that simply cost less than the more expensive tips.

I'de like to give a THANK YOU to all the guys above. Cuejo, G's cues, cueman, Vahmurka, Blue Hog, and Lexicologist. Thank you ALL for the very helpful and useful info you provided. A very special thank you to the few PM's I received with even more detailed info to help me. Thank you guys so very much.

I don't like the Willard Tipping Machine as much as I thought I would, so most likely this will go back up for sale and I will be in the market for a GOOD USED lathe if you guys know anyone that might have one for sale. I'm not looking to get into MAKING cues, just repairs so I don't have or need to spend a fortune on a lathe.

Also, one last question for you experts. What is the best glue/adhesive to use on most all tip replacements ??

Superglue gel is very popular. I used to use Tweeten tip cement to excellent results. I've also used lots of 5 minute epoxy for tips. A repairman I know typically uses Gorilla Glue. It takes forever to cure (in comparison).

nothing can beat Loctite superglue gel IMO. Since it's a bit pricey where I live, we use different CA's (CyanoAcrylate adhesives). Gel is what I liked the best, gives some room/time to adjust the tip to the ferrule if needed. Recently we found even a cheaper option of a glue/activator combo which works great.

If you search this section and Ask the Cuemaker for CA, superglue and Loctite, you gonna find many useful advice on how to get the job done properly.

I like a whole bunch of different CA's
Loctite gel is really good, I also like the tough tip from a guy no one really likes....I haven't had any problems with him at all
