Tip Hardness

Is anybody familiar with the Mueller Hardness Index (MHI) for measuring tip hardness, and where this information can be found?

The data that they provide categorizes tips into 5 scaled categories which are:

Soft -- 60-65 (Mueller Hardness Index or "MHI")

Medium -- 66-75 "MHI"

Medium-Hard -- 76-80 "MHI"

Hard -- 81-85 "MHI"

Extra hard -- 86 and up "MHI"

Each tip gets assigned a number after they test its hardness. One MHI example is the Elk Master tip. Elk Master has a MHI of 60.1. They have numbers for a bunch of other tips, but I can't find it anywhere. A billiards shop that I go to used to have a chart with some of these numbers, but they don't have it any more.

I emailed the Mueller guy who did the tests and he told me the numbers were in the latest Mueller catalog. He didn't tell me where I could get the latest Mueller catalog. I couldn't find a website with the Mueller catalog. I haven't heard back from the guy again.

Here's a file I saved long ago with the ratings you are after. The problem is it hasn't been updated for a long time, so individual ratings may have changed and it is incomplete (Muellers doesn't sell Kamui for example, so they didn't provide any data for them).

Muellers now sells Blackjack tips, which are:
Medium Soft: 63.4
Hard: 82.9

We do sell Kamui and have the hardness listed in the new catalog. That chart is pretty old. We carry about 50 tips, which is almost everything on the market, and have all the listings in the catalog. The website is getting updated as we speak(type).
