Tip life

My Cuetec cue came from Seybert’s with a Kamui soft tip. That was 7 months ago. I seem to be getting more miscues especially on hard draw shots. Should I be pricking and scuffing more often? Or is it time for a new tip?

Do you keep it shaped (not too flat)?

Tip life is hard to give a one size fits all reply to as there's so many factors determining how long a tip lasts. I would say if you're an active player, a tip change or two within a year is the norm.

If you play 6 to 10 hours a week and you don't smack the balls, a soft tip could last up to a year.
Thing is with soft tips is that they compress and get harder with time and loose their softness, this might cause miscues if not scuffed often.
For me, soft tips loose their characters really fast, like 5-6 sessions. I switched years ago to hard tips, they are more consist but require some learning curve with tip placement and stroke not to miscue.

I’m curious why you think the miscues are the tips fault. Is the tip glazed over, holding chalk? I would say 99.999% of my miscues are my fault with the .0001 % being a poorly chalked tip(still my fault).

Yes. This right here.
Tips are inanimate.
People come out of the shot, even just lifting your head a tiny bit instead of staying down can result in a miscue.
The body follows the head.
I'm always amazed how players are so reluctant to blame everything but themselves for mistakes at the table.
I guess we all have perfect fundamentals.

Not much to say, but it is 2018. Get with the times.

These file type tools are the way to go. They scuff, not chew like the tools of yesteryear and there are tons of options out there now.

Mine is 2"x2" and I don't feel I needed anything bigger. Girlfriend's facial expressions indicate agreement.

How old a tip is has nothing to do with really how it plays. But miscues come from bad tip care. Either the shape isn't good enough or the tip needs a scuffing.

Some people tips last a few years. I am constantly shaping my tip so i maybe get about 3-6 months out of a tip

I've been using a Cue Cube for over 30 years for shaping and scuffing. Have two cases and have a cube in each one to scuff or re-shape.

Why are you constantly shaping your tip?
