Tip life

I like Sand Paper as I can keep a Small Square in my wallet, Nail File is good idea until you poke self is Wrong End.
Wrong end ?!?

Using a tip pick on a layered tip is not recommended as it can cause the layers to separate/loosen.
I currently use a tip that I periodically lightly scuff with fine sand paper as it rarely needs maintenance.

Single layer tips have no layers.
Just try a good old Triangle.
KISS.

Yeah..Most black colored tips I have seen have a glazing problem..not sure if it has to do with the color added to the tip but with a natural colored tip I never have that problem.

If you play 6 to 10 hours a week and you don't smack the balls, a soft tip could last up to a year.
Thing is with soft tips is that they compress and get harder with time and loose their softness, this might cause miscues if not scuffed often.
For me, soft tips loose their characters really fast, like 5-6 sessions. I switched years ago to hard tips, they are more consist but require some learning curve with tip placement and stroke not to miscue.
Every tip has about the same miscue limit but a hard tip will let you know when you don't stroke the ball properly, just lived it, 2 balls left on the table for me to win, had a long draw stroke shot to gain position so I loaded up on my stroke and launched the cueball into the corner pocket like a hole in one, the worst part is I didn't need to "load up", it's an old habit I'm still trying to break, by "loading up" I didn't follow through, I have practiced that shot at least 50 times in the last few days and really started working on the fundamentals of my stroke.

Do you keep it shaped (not too flat)?

Well, just the opposite actually. Sometimes we do things (especially in our 70’s) and don’t put 2 and 2 together immediately. Couple weeks ago I used a diamond shaper that one side is dime, other side nickel. I had not shaped the tip since I bought the cue from Syberts about 8 months ago. So I decided to monkey with it (of course). Did the full on dime shape. In retrospect, that’s when my troubles started. When I miscued on a heavy draw, looked at the tip and it was evident just a very small part of the tip contacted the cue ball. Just for shits, I grabbed on of my house cues from China which has a nickel shape on what is undoubtedly a rock hard Elk Master, or worse. Hit some similar draw shots…….no miscues. So I went to work on my Cuetec and reshaped to the nickel radius. Night and day. I’m sure there a players who can play with that dime shape, I apparently am not one of them.

I am so tired of people blaming their tips on the miscues.
It's always the player.
Lift your head up the tiniest little bit and the hands and body follows.
It's always the player.
Tips have no contiousness.
They are bits of leather.
Can't get better at the game if it's everything else but you.
Fundamentals are everything in this game.

My Cuetec cue came from Seybert’s with a Kamui soft tip. That was 7 months ago. I seem to be getting more miscues especially on hard draw shots. Should I be pricking and scuffing more often? Or is it time for a new tip?
You shouldn’t have changed the stock sniper
That was your first mistake

Not much to say, but it is 2018. Get with the times.

if its holding chalk then it is you. unless the chalk falls off every shot then its a ruined tip.

the shape really isnt making anyone miscue.

if you need to mess with your tip often then you are not hitting the cue ball where you are aiming.

It's always you. Not the tip, the table. Or anything else.
Blame yourself when you lose and blame yourself when you win.
