I have spent the last week trying to get reacquainted with a Talisman after playing with a Le Pro for the last year or so.

Not sure if I have the patience to learn the "feel" of this tip all over again. Almost cut it off at one point in league last night.:(

So I got to wondering what "the masses" was using.

I'm playing with a Everest right now. But for the last 4 years I've played with a Moori Soft. We'll see as time goes on if I switch back.

For several years I only used Triangle. Then I tried one Le Pro, but didn't like it too much -- it didn't have that hard hit I was looking for. So I went back to Triangle.

Then I bought a new cue, and I could swear that also it had a Triangle... but lo & behold, it was indeed a Le Pro. Since I heard from several people (including my cue maker) that the Le Pro's were quite inconsistent -- some may be hard, other soft, some good, some bad, etc... all in the same box -- I decided that Le Pro isn't really a tip for me.

So, a few months later I got two Moori soft (medium) off eBay. What I noticed right away was how nicely they hold the chalk and also have that nice "thump" sound that I like.

However, as someone else pointed out before, the Moori's get fairly quickly hard(er), which is okay as long as it doesn't get much harder than it is now... Perhaps I should have gotten the hard Moori to start with... I dunno.

Anyways, I've decided that my next tip will be another Triangle -- I'm just curious to try it out on my new playing cue.

So yes, my vote is for the Triangle.

I still have a few of the older Moori Medium-Hard tips. These are my favorite. I started off with a LePro. Had about 5 of them. Some were hard, others medium. Didn't like that. Getting a new tip was like switching brands with Lepro.

Then switched to Triangle. This is in my opinion, the best single layer tip out there. It is hard though, so if you're not for a hard tip - forget this.

Have a WB on my break cue. Very hard tip, but does the job well. Thinking of going to a phenolic tip to get with the times...

AH, also had 2 Triumphs on a custom cue. These had great control..much firmer than Elk Masters, but I got almost the same amount of spin. Negative was that these wore down real fast, and had massive mushrooming.

Had 1 Elk Master on a Meucci. It originally had a LePro, the day I got it changed to an Elk Master, I was instantly shooting those hard-core forced follow power shots, the ones that hug the rail multiple times like a trick shot. Too bad that tip feels like mush...

Had a Talisman WB medium...was ok - just could never get to liking it. Didn't do anything I liked, never had a feel that I cared for. Wasn't hard, wasn't soft...I dunno, I didn't like it at all. It mushroomed too much for a layered tip in my opinion.

I've had a few others but that's what I remember. Hercules I haven't owned, but tried many times - didn't like the hit. If I do a single layer - Triangle, for laminated - Moori...but I'd really like to try the Everest. Seems like a decent tip.

I've always had good luck with Triangle, untill I find something better, that's tip of choice.

I've used layered tips and they're ok too. but the difference in hit is negligible and triangles are significantly cheaper.:D

Moori III "S" is my choice. It's labeled as a Slow tip which means it's their softest tip, but i've found that after you play with it some it plays like a medium hardness tip. I do cue repairs (mostly shaft work) and i've tried a lot of tips over the years and i've found that this tip works the best for me.

I ordered 3 of the Talisman Mediums, they seem really soft to me. Not to mention the fact that it was so long I would sometimes 'bump' the cue ball while stroking.

I worked it in my tip tool for 20 mins or so after I got it installed to get it a little lower to the ferrule, but it still seemed HUGE on the end of my stick. I couldn't feel contact when hitting the cue ball at all. Every shot felt out of place.
I just cut off a couple layers with a pocket knife, but after I reshaped it its too low. Low to the point that I now need to install a new tip.

I replaced a perfect hitting LePro (went through 4 to get one that hit well) for this Talisman that hits like a sponge.

I like a nice "firm" hit, and frankly this Talisman Medium doesn't cut the mustard. Maybe I should have went with the Hard or maybe the one I put on was a fluke and another will be harder. If not, Id hate to think how the Soft would feel.

I am currently using one of the newer Moori M's tips on my cue.....but would absolutely love to get my hands on the older Moori M's.....I adored them. I'm doing okay....but may well switch over to a Moori S, unless I can find some of the older Moori M's.

I gave the Triangles a try....and they are just too darn hard for me...I couldn't do a thing with them.

Hey Lisa,

You would hate the Hercules tips I mentioned then. They make Triangles feel like Elkmasters.

Hope all is well,
Koop

If they would charge $10 - $20 for a LePro tip then everyone would say that is the best tip. But how can people admit that they play with a 25¢ tip on their $500+ cue?

I think I better buy a box of LePros before they raise their prices. LOL

I realy like moori mediums, but my regular shooter cue has hercules hard on it that i have grown to love. but i will say a good lepro is hard to beat.
