SW tips

I believe South West's standard tips are Triangles however you can also request a layered tip like Moori for an additional charge. Here is a new 9 point SW that I recently received with Moori med tips:

Tip of choice

Got to go with the Moori Line, I use Moori Mediums... they are extremley consistent... The tiger Sniper runs a close second I have had good results as well...

I seem to like the Sniper the best. Although I have Triangles on my spare cues, my player has a Sniper. Works for me.

Moori Q (Hard) is the best I have found. Lasts for months, keeps its shape and compresses perfectly, holds chalk well. I use them on all my playing cues.
 
I really like the Talisman WB-M domed tips. they come with a nickle radius, after I install one, I bring it down to a dime radius and never have to touch it again, they hold chalk great.

I believe he makes his own tips. And you are correct, they are excellent.
 
richard blacks tips! and then kamui!kamui are expensive but worth it i love the soft! I also have a tin of the orig moori and am selling them on ebay
 
Im current shafts have a moori med and a sniper on them. I must say that the sniper tip is the one I prefer. Sniper is a very consistent tip.
 
I like the moori med tips the best, & triangle tips are my second choice. Although I hear the sniper tips are pretty good. Maybe I`ll give one a try someday.
 
Sniper tips have been the best overall tip on the market for years now. No mushrooming, consistent hit, priced lower than the Moori (In most cases), and readily available.

Sniper gets my vote if we can only vote for our top tip.

As described by two cue makers who have not told me wrong yet, crushing it in a vice takes the air out. Makes certain the tip plays consistently. Another method I had heard was dropped in water and if it sank, it is good ( also without air and that makes certain of it). Crushing it in a vice also moves it right to where it would be after playin a few months with it. Harder than it started.

Personally I use Moori medums. I like the traingle "dropped to the bottom of the water AND got crushed in a vice", but never met a Moori medium I did not like.

Do you know what material he uses? Cow hide? Pig skin? WB? Do I have to send the shaft back to him to replace it?

I don't know what they are made of. The last time I talked to Mr. Black he would only install tips on shafts he had made and would not sell tips only.
 
It's my understanding that by crushing a tip in a vise that it compresses the leather thereby making it harder. It speeds up the process of breaking the tip in so to speak!?
