Tip recommendations?

I've been playing with a Sumo for the last 6 months, and the top layer is now on the brink of flaking off. With an opportunity like this, I want to try out a different tip for my cue.

It's a little hard for me to describe, but I enjoy having a firm hit, kind of like a baseball bat, not too much give at all. I've tried a Moori M, but I'm not exactly sure how I liked it.

Any suggestions?

I forgot to mention that my tip doesn't have enough left to reshape, so that's why it's time for the new one.

Sniper has always been a name in my mind, but I've never had first-hand experience with one to try the hit.

your not sure how you liked it?? try a moori soft. i have had good luck with them. i have used the med in the past but after you play a little with the soft they kinda hit like the med did. a little firm. you can get alot more english on the soft though, if you play a game that uses alot. good luck and let us know what ya did and how it turned out. later

Once you try a sniper you will never change again. I've been playing with one for about 3 months now and I love the hit. I have always used a moori m and I bought a Callaluca with a sniper on it and have changed my other playing cue to a sniper.

Or you can try a medium Tallisman pro shaped to a dime and be in heaven.

Just my 2 cents worth

SNIPER.... yea.... that one! Either that tip or get an Everest. Just as an advice for laminated tips: you only need to occasonally scuff a laminated tip. Only once in a blue moon. Nevertheless, it will never miscue on you and the shape will always be there.

Good Hunting on your future (and better) tip!

Try the Moori III quick (the hard one that is) if you want a firm hit. I also like a firmer hit. This tip is not super hard, but more of a medium-hard at least in my opinion. I've tried the medium Talismans and they're too soft for me. Haven't tried a sniper.

I only use Snipers now. I converted from Moori's over the last year and won't go back. A couple of my snipers have around 600 hours on them and they are still going strong. Aside from burnishing the side of the tip, I don't do any other maintanance and still have a confident stroke with them.

Do Snipers eventually harden up a little. I hit with one once and thought it was way too soft.

Thanks,

Yes, after about 2 weeks of constant play they end up feeling great for me.

I'm confused, SUMO's are a sold tip, they don't have layers. Are you using the Samurai tip?.

Anyway,

Talisman hard is a great layered tip, but I've always preferred a hard Triangle pressed. This is what I use, it hits crisp on medium shots but has a little give when you lay into the ball.

still no reply, Klopek...I'm confused, have been putting Samurai tips on for years and they AIN'T layered....maybe somebody told him it was a Samurai or maybe the tip is separating because it hasn't been maintained properly ?? (they do dry out and people do abuse them)

Nothing against other tips. I started with an Everest, and was completely fine with it, but the new Sniper I just tried is awsome. Yeah, a little softer at first, but I didn't mind. There's just something about the feel and sense of control that connects really well for me. I'm kind of a tightwad but I think it's worth the extra ten bucks or so to give it a try.

Nice thing about a new tip is that many of your miscues will disappear.:D

in general, 10%. but if they are busting to keep people happy, >15.

or are you asking people to recommend recommendations? i'm confused.

Yes, Sumo tips are a solid piece of leather, so I think I mis-described what's happening. Rather than layers coming apart, the tip actually just fractured in a circular pattern.

Thanks everyone for the recommendations thus far!
