Hello, hopefully I'm posting in the right place.

There is a question that really hits me whenever I go to the cue repairer in my town, he starts repairing my tip and asks me "do you want half moon or quarter moon" and I'm not sure of the difference between the two.

I mean which of the two do miscue less than the other? Is there any siencefically truth to this? Weather that the half moon do actually less of miscue than the quarter moon? Or the other way around. Please let me know. I'm in repair man place as we speak and I'll like an answer. :)

Thanks

I'm confused by the terms "half-moon" and "quarter-moon".

I have always seen tip shapes described as "dime" or "nickel" radius.

Tip shape is a matter of personal preference. The same tip can be shaped like a dime first and if you don't like that, it can be flattened out to a nickel. You can't do that too many times without running out of tip, but once you decided which you like, it's easy and cheap to get a new tip installed and your preferred shape put on.

My 2 cents,

Gary

Maybe 1/2 moon is dime (less radius) and 1/4 moon is nickel (more radius)?

That's the only way I can figure it...

I prefer nickel (1/4 moon??) for my tip, which is 13.25mm diameter.

Someone posted something not too long ago trying to wrap our heads around the "correct" tip radius based on tip diameter and I think that went on for several pages and got no where...

Give him the full moon, then walk out and go to someone who knows what they're doing.

I was always under the assumption that the moon always had the same circumference no matter what kind of moon it was, 1/4, 1/2, full or even Honey.
