I asked my Doctor what was the best cream, lotion, or spray to put on my hands to get rid of the pain and stiffness in the morning for my Arthritis. When she said put both hands under the hottest water you can stand W/O burning yourself. I looked at her like she just got off a spaceship from Mars. This Doctor is a 40 year old knockout, a profess at USF, and on TV in the Bay area all the time. She has more titles than Merryweather. Guess what? It works. Five Minutes under the hot water and I go right out and play some pool. No pain making a closed bridge.. Johnnyt

PS: Johnnyt is still wishing she was blowing me off.;)

I'm gonna try that. I've played with arthritis in my hands for over five years now. Hope it helps.

I hope it helps you too. I have Arthritis very bad and can't believe how much it helps. John

Like rramsey the only time my wrists (and thumbs) don't hurt is when I do dishes. A hot shower helps too. No matter what, I still can't form a closed bridge. Mobic, which helps a lot, is bad for the liver so I save it for motorcycle tours. Even with Mobic I still can't form a proper closed bridge.

Of course my eyesight's not so hot either. That's why I only play other old timer's here in Geezerville.
One of them still has his eyesight and wrists and is the hot stick. Everybody hates him.

Good Post to help us 'older guys'.

If it's just the heat, there are infrared massage lamps designed for pain relief.

I have one & looked at it but there is no name brand on it.

It just says "INFRARED Lamp 92-3"

Super hot showers on my head use to slightly help with my migraines.

try tumeric

5 years ago I had to massage my thumbs when I got up in the morning due to joint stiffness and pain, making a closed bridge was out of the question. I'd heard and read about the known anti inflammatory properties of tumeric. It works incredibly well, problem solved after a few days and have been using it ever since.Read up on it, lots of info.

I'm gonna try some of these things. Taking methotrexate and prednisone now for about 6 months and sometimes it just don't work good enough. Mines not in my hands so much as feet, knees, elbows, and wrists. Absorbine Jr. helps some too. Thanks for the tips!

When I started taking gelatin, the mother of the girl I was going with tried it for the back
pain she'd had for twenty years.....the pain disappeared.

Gelatin doesn't work for ALL kinds of arthritis....but please give it a try for a month.

Johnny,
The most effective remedy I've found for Arthritis can be found at
Trader Joe's. Look for Tart Cherry Juice (natural unsweetened).
Just a few ounces a day will free up those fingers.
I have Osteoarthritis in most joints and this stuff really works.
$4.99 for a quart jar. I buy it by the case of 12.

This makes sense when you consider that most of the topical treatments simply create a warming feeling on th skin to relieve stiffness.

I've been told about the Turmeric by a nutritionist too.

I recently found out that my 29 yr. old son, that played some football for LSU, has it in his hands to the point of actually hearing it when he closes his hands.

Good Luck with finding some relief. Maybe a combination of remedies will get it done on a more ongoing basis.

Best 2 Ya.

What form, brand of Gelatin do you use?

I just ate a soup bowl of Jello for a month, every day.
My girl friend's mother used gelatin powder in her orange juice.
There is better stuff in health food stores.....
...but, what the hell, Jello worked for me
