when my tip shrooms up, i can easily trim the shroom, but I can't get the sides black. is there a special way to do this? I dont have a lathe, but I can spin it in a drill.

Find a piece of smooth leather then slightly wet the side of the tip, twist or spin the shaft while holding the leather against the tips sidewall. This should burnish it up nicely and help prevent it from mushrooming more. You can also take a black sharpie and apply to side wall of tip to get it black to have a little more contrast to the white cue ball.

cool, ill give it a shot. i think I have to use a sharpie on milk duds though, cuz they just stay blue no matter what I try.

i lick my finger and rub the spit on the sides of the tip. then i burnish it with a dollar bill

i know a guy that uses a sniper tip and colors the edges of it with a marker.

how about some edge dressing for shoes. i've never tried it but i used to use it on my dress shoes in the service. i bet if you tape up the ferrule with painters tape and used edge dressing it would make it black and keep it from mushrooming

u can use the back of sandpaper. I use that, or leather. Layered tips burnish nicely. I have found that the milk tips do not burnish once trimmed. they have a crumbling effect. You are SOL on that my friend. That is the price you pay for using a milk dud.

If I were you, I would just put it on, burnish it with super glue right from the start, and just keep it well domed for as long as you could until it started to mushroom, then just change it out.
