yw glad to help, let me know if he has any I'll take 1 too...

will do! from what i heard they are supposed to be better for not scraping the ferrule. i have one of the porper mushroom graser and i cant get it as flush as i want because it will scrape the ferrule.

agreed the porper is bad. Plus new layer tips don't fit all the way in, too.

yeah it can be made to work, but it takes practice and patience. (neither of which i have time for)

Any of these manual cutters are really hit or miss...I know that from personal experience. Be sure to trim SMALL areas at a time. Layered tips can pop off or delaminate when you try to trim them with these items.

Also, make certain that you change the razor often. Sharp works much better. Other thing is that if you accidentally cut too far down, your ferrule gets a boo-boo.

For manual "demushrooming", I personally prefer the Porper mushroom tool or the Ultimate tip tool between the tines...they both use pressure and basically burnish the tip. This is the one I mean:

I really like the pencil sharpeners that AndyHo was knocking out a while ago. You have to be very careful with these, however, as catching the ferrule is very easy to do. Some are better than others, too - I've got a couple from elsewhere that looked identical, but were next to useless.

Anyway, I need a foolproof and cheap way of taking glue/tip remnant off the top of the ferrule. Getting a perfectly flat ferrule is surprisingly difficult to do.

Anyone know of tools that do that?
