I don't have a kamui tip but my buddy does and was not impressed. It's my understanding that a S is like a medium and M like a hard. I like Everest better and will be putting it on my Schon if it ever gets here.

I used to play with Kamui Black medium tips ......I've since switched to Kamui Clear Black in a soft and supersoft.....less glazing and the hardness change suited my game a lot better....my stroke is better suited to Kamui Clear soft & super-soft tips better than when I played Kamui Black medium tips.

You're correct,it's been beaten to death.That being said,I've tried 'em all.The 3 tips that I use exclusively now and that I'm satisfied with are pooldawg8's milkduds,Schon brand tips from Seyberts,and the good old Le Pro.My post has very little to do with your question except for my 1st sentence yet these are MY OPINIONS,please accept as such !!!
LOL if they have been on for 3 years they are likely the same hardness now.

The Ultra Skins. Those are my Go To tips for my Customers. I stock several brands that I like.
I found that I also like the Navigator tip.
After a short time, I find that Kamui does glaze over frequently. You'll be scuffing before your league matches, and later on in the life of your tip, you'll also be scuffing half way thru.
If you're going to scuff that much on a regular basis, and it could be more, if you do play more, don't expect a ton of life for the price.
Talisman. Tony has just come out with some new tips that he was Beta Testing. He sent me a few, which I installed on others cues but haven't had a chance to try one myself. But, no complaints from the other customers re that one.
People have mentioned that Talisman does play similar to a Moori. Now, I can tell you 100% that they certainly look like a Moori when installed, but haven't enuff experience
using Mooris to be able to toss my 2 cents in on that one.
Same has been said about the cheaper priced Wizard tips.
Kamui has had its day in the Sun and there are too many other great choices that have hit the Tip Market since.
2 people that I know of that use Kamui tips in my small city. And I know the majority of League Players. That should speak volumes right there.

I personally play w/ Wizards, that's what my preferred cue builder uses on his cues. My personal opinion is, if you like the way a cue plays when it's new from the builder, stick with what they recommend. It keeps the integrity of the cue from the builder. I feel the same way about ferrule material and shaft taper. If you like a cue as delivered, why mess with the experience you paid for.

I just tried some of Pooldawg8 MilkDuds. All I can say is I'am Very impressed with it. Also the installer was very impressed with the way it installed. He has installed other peoples "MilkDuds" and he said these are different. He said he has got it down pat. I bought 3 of they so I gave him one. He was going to install it on his playing cue. Haven't check to se how he likes it yet. Long story short for the price of them they cant be beat and they play very well. Michael
I hope that Talisman has overcome their old delamination issues. My favorite commercial tip I have ever purchased is an older black Talisman WB Hard which is still in use. But subsequent copies of that tip were not so great. The newer copies remind me of Tiger Emerald, OK but not great. I have two brown Talisman Pro Hard tips and concur that they look and play like Moori III Quick which is my second most favorite commercial tip. But I don't know enough about the structural stability of those tips to recommend them.
The shaft that has become my most common player has a Kamui Black Clear Medium. I really like the tip. It glazes, but all tips need preparation before playing. Kamui sells their tip tool for a fairly high price. I use the substantially less expensive Morakami tip tool and I am very happy with it. Other companies appear to be using the same surface on tip tools. It roughs the tip surface for accepting chalk with very little if any loss of tip material.

It is my opinion that the tan Kamuis feel softer than what they are rated. I went from a soft, then medium, then hard and none of them seemed to feel all that different. I had my tip installer knock them down in height too so they were not so tall. I bought a shaft that had an Everest Tiger on it which feels harder than the Kamuis on my cue and have been using them without complaint. To me the soft and medium Kamuis are so soft that you get no feedback.
I used to swear by the old LePro. Now it seems the LePro mushroom awfully fast. Same story, quality has gone down.
